    Gearbox leak, how to fix

what jimfrp88 hasn't mentioned in his response above (and you may know already) anyway, the clutch and brake systems share a common reservoir so if the clutch slave is leaking, the brake fluid level will go down. Other possibilities are a leak from the gearbox input shaft or crank shaft seal...

Thanks XAF for the offer of a ride- unfortunately I'm down in Cambridgeshire. Thanks to the rest of you for comments, think I'll leave it alone to be honest :)

    Lowering

Hi All you techies out there. I want to lower my 1.7 but not like a schoolboy car! Just want to drop it about an inch (25mm for you metric folk) It has excellent STD shox already here's my question - Years ago a local supplier chopped 1 coil out of standard Golf GTTDI springs for me to lower...

54 Yrs old and just got my childhood back !

Put Michelin PS3s all round in the end, Local Tyre house put them on and balanced for 15 quid more than I could've got them from e-bay (not fitted/balanced) following a soggy horrible weekend, I have only good things to say about the PS3, very impressive in the wet - which will be most of the...

Would you let your kids drive your Puma?

My Dad taught me on various fields (both grass and a disused airfield) I was eight Yrs old when I 1st 'drove' (I'm not counting sitting on his knee aged 4 ish and 'steering' the old Mk1 Cortina) 1st drive was a Ford Escort Mk1, 13GT - I suppose that's kind of equivalent to Puma these days. I...

    Black & Blue - help!

Tough one that :| Depends what you can do yourself & what you might have to pay someone else to do. The engine that broke it's cam belt is almost certainly beyond use, it will have damaged valves, valve guide, pistons & possibly more (you'd need precision instruments to check the con rods and...

    Hi another newbie here

Hi from a fellow newbie to Pumas (but I'm ancient and I've been messing with cars since I was 8 Yrs old. I have done the cam belt on mine and it's not as difficult as it's made out to be. It's not a job for a novice though - your call, I don't know your experience level. I had to change the...

Hi all, new 1.7 owner checking in.

Front wishbones including bushes, cheap on wee bay - spend a bit of time looking, I found the bones, drop links, track rod ends and anti roll bar bushes + replacement bolts & lock nuts as a kit for a good price. If you're doing all that, might as well do top mounts & (if you're brave) rear axle...

    Cold Air Constantly

Mine was blowing cold all the time when I bought the car. I removed the connector from the HCV gave it a good clean and put it back, works fine now. At the risk of giving an egg sucking lesson, make quite sure your coolant level is topped up, heater could have an airlock.

    New owner..2001 model with 34k!

Hi Fellow newbie. I put new Mintex pads and disks on mine just after I bought it, also replaced the brake / clutch fluid with new dot4 and bled the system, made a big difference, It's well worth dressing the rough edges off the back plates on the pads before fitting and assemble with a SMALL...

54 Yrs old and just got my childhood back !

Thanks to everyone for comments / suggestions - rainsport front / ditchfinder rear sounds interesting. I'll try it - can always replace the rears with rainsport if it doesn't suit me

54 Yrs old and just got my childhood back !

Hi Folks, Recently 'discovered' the 1.7 Puma and instantly replaced my MGB GT with a 2000 1.7 Bought it for 650 and have replaced the clutch, timing belt, water pump, exhaust system and all the suspension bushes etc. The car still only owes me about a 1/3 of the cost of a reasonable MGB and is...
