Hi everyone I came here first rather than going to a garage.
My puma 1.6 2001 was over revving when changing gears it revved high and didn't accelerate, once the revs dropped it then did it.
I had a look and notice the air intake pipe had a hole so replaced it.
It was fine for few months but know it's doing it again it seems to only do it in 4th & 5th gear any ideas what this could be.
Many thanks.

Hi Yarp,

Is it the exact symptoms or are you high revving when trying to accelerate in those gears?

If it is when changing gears, does it happen when pressing, depressing the clutch etc?

I could be totally off base but does it have anything to do with the;-

  • Clutch position switch (next to/behind/on) the clutch pedal becoming loose?
  • Or, a dirty butterfly valve in the throttle body?
  • What about a dirty idle control valve?
  • Dirty MAF and/or connectors?
  • If not, what about dirty connectors on the TPS (Throttle position switch) in the engine bay? Although it's usually causes the opposite problem i.e stalling....I think

Been a while but those would be my first go to's (in that order). Then pipe checking as you've done.

Also know a ECU reset as Richard says could also help.

A multitude of things for you to check - all easy fixes unless one is busted!

Then we get to inlet manifold gasket leaks & stuff like that. Lets hope you fixed it before then as a bit more work needed after the first lot.

Good luck.
