Hey,

Since a few days my Puma is making a slight knock from the front of the car. It happens when I release the clutch and gently push the accelerator, It then makes a knock/clonk sound for just one second and then stops. It also does it when I go over small concrete speedbumps.

I suspect the ARB bushes are on this way out or the droplinks. Have anyone else ever had this problem?

Would be lovely if someone can give me some advice!

Brian

Most likely is a collapsed bush,
A visual inspection should show up any split bushes.
remember to look at your ball joints and track rod ends too.

ive had this with the drop link heads moving around in or ovaling the strut and/ or anti roll bar appertures was eaily sorted with new drop links and a piece of tube.

Changed the droplinks a few weeks ago, however the knocking sound hasn't gone away, It's still there, Didn't go worse though!. Haven't put on the track rods yet as I need to get it realigned then. The thing I suspect now is one of the engine/gearbox mounts as it's only mostly common from standstill and in 1st. Anyone has any idea how I can test this or has other ideas about what failed?

Would love to hear the advice!

Brian

Hi Brian
Try a rapid set off in first and if it thumps a lot (tramps) I suspect it will be one of the bushes in the bottom stabiliser. This is a common fault in MK6 Fiestas so it might be also in Pumas.

Tried a rapid set off today and it didn't gave me the knocking noise so I'm happy with that, Glad that it isn't an engine mount or gearbox mount. Then next thing I tried was steering from a standstill using the power steering. When standing still it makes noise when steering to the right. I did make a video in the hope that it will expain itself.

Also checked the power steering fluid, which is good. It only happens when turning right so it might be a rubber bush or wishbone bolt?

First video, You can hear it in the first 4 seconds.

Second video, You can hear it at the 11-13 second mark.

Just made two new videos as it does seem to get worse..

One without the use of power steering while standing still:

Second one with the engine on while standing still:

rack mounts, strut mounts and or top mount bearings? get some one else to do the steering and check, if you jack it up and take the load off see if there is any change, may help narrow it down

Problem is solved, Apparently there was a loose wishbone bolt. It didn't had any play when going straight but steering created play causing it to knock, Solved it on accident really because I was changing my bushes for poly bushes and noticed this. Really happy
