Cambridge Newbie, 02 Plate, 1.7 and only 48k

First of all, I love the car, and great fun to drive. As a biker I needed a car just for winter, but after using quite a bit recently I think this is a keeper.

Apart from the squealing when I first start it, which is probably the belts, I have a slight grinding after I've pulled away and moving through the gears. Pulling away in first, and moving into second, I get a slight grinding from what I think is gearbox. It retards the drive of the car for a moment and then goes away, but it can be felt through then pedals, which makes me think it's the gearbox.

Any idea what this might be, and what it might cost to repair?

is it the ABS self test you are experiencing? does it only happen when you first start the car and pull away then its ok for the rest of the trip?

Yes, that exactly what happens. ABS self test? I've never heard of a car doing do that before.
