It is mate, its 200kg heavier then the standard puma, look at this link:
http://www.fantasycars.com/Ford_Puma/Fo ... nical.html

Ive obviusly not weighed the 2 cars myself, but theres a few sites that state its heavier, not sure exactly what makes it heavier, but might be something to do with the uprating of some of the stuff, driveshafts ect.

Heres a better site, has the bhp, and power to weight ratio of a few different cars.

Interesting, only think I can think is that they were considering a standard Puma, i.e. no A/C, no PAB, absolute bog basic. Honestly suprised, but that is what the data says!

Yeah possibly, also i just thought, leather interior weighs a fair bit more then cloth, not 200kg more, but that helps to add a bit of weight. I could be wrong, but i dont think they ever did a 1.7 puma without aircon, im sure someone will correct me if im wrong, but ive not come across 1??? Youve got me thinking now, i cant for the life of me think why the racing puma would be heavier!! I just read the info, and took it for granted that it was, but now youve said the wings are fibre glass, its got me baffled. Its got thicker and longer driveshafts on the front, theres a few kg, and its got small ali spacers on the back, so not much weight there. The front bumper must weigh a tad more, as its very slightly wider, and has the carbon fibre splitter, which weighs almost nothing!! Id imagine the manifold and exhaust would be lighter then the standard cast models??

17" x 7.5" alloy wheels and tyres will weigh quite a bit more than standard 15" wheels. Alcons and larger brake disks will weigh quite a bit more than the standard too.

And there are loads of Pumas about without air con and even manual adjustable mirrors lol :P

Still, 200kg seems a stretch!

Chris - sorry for cluttering your thread!

I always thought the std car was about 1039kg and the FRP about 1130kg. Can't for the life of me remember where I got those figures from though. A 90kg would be more believable than a 200kg difference.

Definately. Also, aren't the Alcon's made of alloy, rather than cast iron?

dont worrie about it! needs some good publicity lol

Interesting information though!

I have been thinking and I would like to aim for the 1tonne marker with my puma once I can afford to strip the interior out properly (buckets/belts/braces)

get it to a tonne and then whatever bhp I have will be relevant to a tonne.

will be a pretty nippy motor but for now like I said previously it is definitely sort the safety and mechanics of the car out.

To be honest, id have thought that as its only 1041kg, if you take out the back seats, rear wiper motor and arm, and blank it off, and take out the spare wheel with the carrier, you wont be far off the tonne there!! Thats if your happy running around with no spare! Anything else to me is drastic, and will affect the value of your car for resale. The bits i mentioned are 5 min jobs to take out, and put back, you can take out your air con pump and rad to loose more, but if your looking to sell it on, it might put people off, same with carpets and sound deadning, its not just a 5 min job to put back in, but its another option!!

yeah thats my plan to take all that off + my aircon. bring on the tonne! another great thing with taking the back seats out is that you can remove the seat belt mechanism and those cradles are heavy in the puma.

I would like to lighten the front a little more tbh as it will be very heavy at the front so I think carbon bonnet would be on the cards.. + jacko showed me some insanely light aluminium bonnet hinges which would be good.

after speaking with jacko I have decided to have the cambelt done at top gear wolverhampton and not do it myself. costly but saves anything going wrong. (fingers crossed)

bloody alloys i want are offset 42 :( i am fed up of looking for these 7j mondeo alloys. ive bought 6 sets and all of them have been advertised wrong.

the only other ones i like are these fox racing mulispoke ones. like mine but not 17" and not bent spokes. offset 42 though.

I can have spacers made to fit the centre bore exactly to eliminate spigot problems.

5mm thick would get it to 37 and thats not ideal but i dont think you can have more than 5mm spacing on standard bolts without running out of tread.

thats them! there nice arn't they but i dont know what to do about the offset.

i know how drastic the pumas handling can change with the incorrect offset.

could get 8mm longer bolts and 8mm spacer made up... just another thing to go wrong though.

they look gorgeous!

i dont know if i can stay on 17's though. i would much prefer 16's. i want a bit more tyre as the roads round me are terrible and having it slammed, powerflexed and on 17's is gonna kill me or the car quickly.

I also read somewhere that the pumas offset is from 34 - 42.. i dont think its very accurate but with a small 3mm spacer on it wont be too bad.
