I need to remove carpets from rear wheel arches to clean out and inspect as first signs of blisters ( series of lines in paint at bottom of arch nearest to door ) Can this be done on my drive with limited tools and car jack Cheers
PS where’s Thoresby Barry when I need him😂

Yeah it's held in place with shitty little clips, most of which will be fucked (mine were so the previous owner felt the best way to secure it was handfulls of black silicone) and a couple of screws that hold the mud flaps on.

Thanks sounds like fun

From memory I thought the majority of fixings holding the carpets in place were very small torx fitting screws. Just double checked outside and indeed they are.
I hope that helps Phil.

The rear carpets are mostly held in place with these awful things.

Usually completely covered with dirt and rusty as hell with half of the screw rusted away to nothing, which is why most are missing.

Thanks I have had a look and can see one of the screws straight away so your memory serves you well 😂 something I need to attack sooner rather than later. That and finding a good cam belt changer
Cheers Phil

Hi Phil I posted on your thread about the cam belt change as well. Use Chris Alinson as he's not far from you and knows what he's doing.

Surprisingly the screws com e out easily because they are screwed into plastic fittings. If there are the round fittings on as wellthey are just spun onto a self tapper thread off the bodywork so just spin them as you would a screw and they should wind off

Rang Chris and left message on answer machine. A local engine tuner has quoted £688 which includes changing water pump and rollers but says Ford no longer supply the rocker gasket you said was important it was gen Ford part. Do you think that is likely?

I still say Chris Allison, he does so much more than just replacing the belt, pulleys and water pump. It may look expensive, but his labour charges are very reasonable. I had mine done on my Medium Steel blue Puma back in December and have done about 2000 miles since, the engine pulls so much better than before. I purchased a Red Puma in February and I won't hesitate to use him again when it needs the belts etc doing. I know it will be done properly, by an acknowledged expert

Thanks I am still trying to get through to Chris as he is my preferred option in view of yours and Barry’s recommendation but was worried about local guys comment about rocker gasket being obsolete from Ford. Thanks again for your comments
Cheers

Chris uses the Elring one and fits it correctly. Ford didn't make the gaskets, they bought them in, as far as I understand.
I know Chris is quite busy, but I can't recommend him enough. I was going to replace the earth lead from the block to the bulkhead, but Chris had already replaced it, also every nut he'd removed was replaced with new.
I emailed him for first contact

Chris does more cam belt changes than most so I suppose if the Ford rocker cover gasket is NLA he knows the best substitute. In fact I will probably contact him for the same info as my cam belt wants doing this year

Your probably right about Ford not making the gasket most big firms actually make bugger all now just buy in put their sticker on them or in a nice box and charge you double 😂 I will keep trying to get hold of Chris. In view of your and Johns advice it would be foolish not to use him
Thanks again

Hi Barry
Thanks for the help and advice. I got through to Chris and he is going to try and fit me in for cam belt as soon as he can but has some big puma racing jobs on and always busy summer. He did say so long as belt not whining or making odd noises just use it as normal ( not very often 😁))and should be fine. I am going to attempt removing carpets to see what’s happening but got a quote to sort out some blemishes around wheel arches which was frightening. No doubt was going to be excellent as have seen their work but wanted to cut out rear side windows to do job properly and then said at my risk if brake glass getting out as obsolete from Ford. I am thinking get cambelt and MOT done remove personal number plate and maybe sell next year before we move house.
Will probably take to a couple more show before that.
Thanks again. It was good to meet you and hope to see again sometime
Phil

Why do they want to take the glass out ? I'm having the rear arches on my Red one and the guy said that there is no need to remove the glass, as he'll just paint the lower part of the rear quarter panel after replacing the arches.

Apparently moondust silver is terrible to blend in so to do proper job want to do full panel and with windows bonded in they don’t want to mask up to it. They are excellent and hence have 3 months waiting list but it won’t be going there as more pressing things to attend to 😂

i understand, my Medium steel blue one is a pain to match colour with as its metallic, but the Radiant red one is fairly easy to blend in. Its the red one that is having the arches done at the moment.
