THE QUEST FOR THE LOWER SEAT

The Thunder Leathers certainly upset my back, but as I already had the Recaros, my solution was cost effective. I actually bought the seats in 1989, and only ever replaced the rubber sheet under the seat cushion. As they are not handed, I could swap them from OS to NS to equalise any wear over the 2...

THE QUEST FOR THE LOWER SEAT

Not tried an Rx-8 seat, but when I had my Thunder with the original leather seats I also found them too high. I did have a pair of Recaros (From Recaro, not out of another car) that I had fitted to two different Sierra 4x4s, and a '98 V6 Mondeo, so fitted those. With the Sierra, they had adaptors to...

On the battery side of the starter solenoid it would work ?

Does the boot latch not have a bowden cable between the key cylinder and the boot release, so you should be able to get in the car through the hatch.

Black strips along roof

I did stick one of mine back a few years ago, can't remember what glue I used, but get the curve in the strip to match the curve in the roof before you try and do any sticking.

Something else to remember, remove all sat nav, dash cam and phone mounts using suction mounting onto the screen - I am aware that some testers may fail you, and they won't remove said mounts from the screen increase they break them.... I am amazed how many vehicles have multiple devices obscuring t...

Four Thunder Alloy Wheels

I have four Thunder alloy wheels in my garage....... Not to sure how to post images, but I'm sure you all know what they look like. All Circular and no significant surface damage, but finish is showing it's age. In Winchester area, for collection or may be able to deliver/meet within reasonable dist...

Battery draining problem

If you have a decent Digital Voltmeter (DVM) you can check for battery drain without disconnecting anything by measuring the voltage across the battery earth lead. Sounds corny, but you should only show a few mV, if any, and you can calibrate it by opening the boot - then with that single 5W bulb po...

Cleaning inlet manifolds

I do appreciate that the valves need to be open, or you would still have a compression stroke, but do you know if it is always the same cylinder that is disabled ? And how about engine braking when the throttle is closed ? I know that the fuel is normally cut off on all cylinders on the over-run dow...

Cleaning inlet manifolds

I don't know how the disabling method, but would it only ever disable the same cylinder ?

on a 4 cyl. would a simple sequence (forgetting 1-3-4-2 or 1-2-4-3) be: 1,2,3,4,- 2,3 4,1, - 3,4,1,2 - 4,1,2,3, then repeat, 1,2,3,4, et al.

So in 10 revolutions, instead of 20 firing cylinders, only 16 ?

Smacking your head on the bonnet edge

I used to bang my head on the bonnet, far too frequently, my excuse - being a pensioner!

As for getting in and out, OK on that, but first time I got in brother's XF - hit my head on roofline!

Running 205/50/15 boots

Tyre Circumference

205/50/15 = 72.44"
195/50/15 = 71.22"
+1.4%

So, if speedo over-reads with standard tyre, then probably more accurate!

steering pulling right ?

You might want to try braking hard with your hands off the steering wheel..... somewhere safe of course. Should stop in a straight line if geometry etc is correct. One assumes trackrod lengths are identical, because if they are not, you might get a steering effect with braking or acceleration. Early...

Headrestraint too far back?

IIRC the head restraint should be high enough so that if you lean backwards, your head should touch the restraint, not your neck. The idea being that in the event of a rear end shunt, your head would not go backwards over the top of the restraint, resulting in whiplash.

Plungers and Door open warning light

If you have a "boot open light" - When the boot is open you will see four brass plungers on the hatch, and four corresponding copper tabs on the rear panel. Make sure the contact points are clean and free from corrosion, I suggest you use one of the toothbrush sized brass wire brushes, or possibly a...

Last time I needed a double sided sticky pad for a rear view mirror, I found Ford were cheaper than Halfords. And worked. You will need to ensure both mating surfaces are cleaned with a degreaser/solvent, with every trace of glue removed, and In this weather, both screen and mirror are completely dr...

I think they have removed a lot of information that was once available to all. I found it very useful to check the spec of a car from it's registration to save viewing a Fiesta without a HFS, as according to most second hand car salesmen, they all have one! But now I think as Rick implies, you need ...
