Re: BigAl's Black Cat!

Very wise decision Al, I love those wheels anyhow but they will be ideal track wheels, the 1.7 isn't geared for 17's anyhow but smaller wheels are always a win on track.

Re: My frp and big plans

I'll PM you mate, don't want to clutter Ryan's thread.

I have to admit Ryan, if I could do something like this I would love to. This may convince me to build something NA, a screaming ITB'd track beast!!

Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

Good man, i look forward to meeting you. SO i assume youve never seen an FRP before then either? There will be some very nice models there, you need to see Alex with FRP 401, that thing is like it just came out the showroom! And Aaron Bentley and Simon (Blue3) also have very clean FRP's. Will you dr...

Re: FRP replica

If you need any spare centre caps for those wheels i have 4 in my garage. I had a set of those MOMO's years ago but they got damaged. The caps will only go in the bin so if they are any use to you, you can have them. The good thing is they are aluminium so you can also get them powdercoated the same...

Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

Bet it feels good to have the beast back on the road rev limit or no rev limit! :) Oh for sure, its just passed the 500 mile marker after a trip to Bedford Autodrome yesterday with some other members. It drove the 200 mile around trip faultlessly, except the positive battery cable breaking out the ...

Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

Yes that's the way to run an engine in properly, constant driving at one speed (like motorway driving) won't work. And engine braking is very good for bedding rings in. That's what I try and do, although it's probably annoying to other drivers when I keep speeding up and slowing down lol

Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

Yes mate, I think I'm going to limit it at 3000rpm until 500 miles, then limit it to 4000rpm after that, but only occasionally going past 3000rpm on light load.

Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

The engine doesn't feel much different, the boost seems to come on about 400rpm sooner, and the engine seems to be very smooth, it feels like I've traded a little of the revvyness for a little more torque. It's quite hard to tell at the moment because I've not driven it aggressively yet. Fuel econom...

Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

Not much to report, I've only managed to put 320 miles on the engine so far so it's still limited to 3000rpm. I thought I'd clean a few bits up while I had the chance, so fitted new stainless braided hoses, and new hard pipes front and back. Also rebuilt and painted front calipers, & had rear calipe...

Re: How To Set FRP Cams With Standard Locking Tool

Ok after checking the cad drawings for the locking tool (Thanks Simon for the drawings) it is indeed 2 cam degrees and 4 crank, so 4mm longer pin will work perfect!!

Re: How To Set FRP Cams With Standard Locking Tool

Hi mate, I didn't use that tool, I made my own from threads bar, but that tool will work out better! The thicker shaft makes no difference so it will be fine, it's a little but more awkward to get in the hole as it's quite restricted around there, but it will definitely work as mine is even thicker ...

Re: vct/vvt when turbo'd

Yes, you'd have to put it on a dyno to get the settings optimal. For my set up with standard cams, there was a noticeable difference mid range with the VCT. That's not to say that it would have been so noticeable with a different set of cams. There are just too many variables to calculate what the o...

Re: vct/vvt when turbo'd

Yes, generally speaking, spark timing needs to be retarded on boost, but there are loads of variables, engine speed, air temp, dynamic compression ratio ect. And VCT is always going to be an advantage on a turbo engine, as long as the correct cams are selected, because turbo cams are normally short ...

Re: vct/vvt when turbo'd

That's perfect!! But I can't open the details or see prices on my phone, I'll take a look when I get home. On a side note the megasquirt 3 v3 ECU's do support full VCT control. Trigger wheels are megasquirt suppliers so its probably the same technology. My MS2 is able to support one PWM output, but ...
