Mk1 Focus RS powered Puma

I like the idea of the additional fuses, I've thought the same thing with mine, it's not ideal to have that wire infused running the complete length of the car.

Ah ok, what size injectors are you running? Im on 600's at the moment. I'm not sure if mine will be anymore a handful then yours, I've noticed the zetec a seem to have a lot more low down torque then the duratecs with exactly the same set up. But the duratecs seem to make more top end power. But I g...

Mk1 Focus RS powered Puma

Yes mate, I ran it up to near 500 (at a guess) the other day, and it held up fine. Ah ok, so the 5 paddle is a less aggressive option for you then. Did you get that bad judder when trying to do hill starts or pulling away in 1st? I found hill starts were the worst! Mine was a Helix uprated cover. Bu...

What clutch was you running previously Ben? I'm running the Uprated AP organic for the FRS. I was considering the paddle but my last paddle was horrible to drive in traffic.

Wow dude, just read about your engine issues, that's bad news mate :o Really hope you can get this sorted soon, sounds like its going to be a real expensive job, but at least you'll have a good solid engine when its done!

FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

Sorry there have been no updates in a while, I've been a little busy. Yes mate, it's had quite a few changes since I last posted :-D Firstly I've removed the VCT, the double valve springs made it too jerky trying to find its correct position. So I've swapped out the cams to cosworth cams. I got that...

VCT P1381 & P1383 PLEASE HELP!!

Hi, Tom. The procedure for checking cam timing is to rotate crankshaft only clockwise, until just before TDC. (You can either put something in piston 1/4 spark plug hole to check or just look at the census of the cams (they will be perfectly horizontal grooves when the crank is at TDC). Then insert ...

1.6 keeps cutting out

I'd agree there, Idle control valve or clutch switch are most likely culprits, although a bad lambda or TPS could also have the same effect and wouldn't show on an OBD2 scan, however live data from the sensors might show something. Ian G off here is in or around the Liverpool area if that's not too ...

Some help regards electronics.

If the speedo is working correctly then the sensor is fine, but even without the VSS plugged in, it shouldn't affect performance in a negative way, it could actually speed the car up because you'd loose the torque restriction. But if you are lacking power in low-mid RPM, that could be the cam sensor...

Yes, exactly as pictured. If you look at the diagram, it shows you there is a bypass for the heater (HCV), so even if the thermostat wasn't opening, it would still warm the car up. The engine will still circulate a small amount of water until up to temp, then once that water going through the HCV ge...

I could recommend accompany that sells through eBay caller J&R. I've used their CV's to get me out of a tight spot, and they've held up well even with big power. They give you a 2 year no quibble guarantee so must have some faith in their products.

Hi mate, not sure if you've sorted this but as you look from the front of the car, the coolant flows from right to left in the rad.

If it's not flowing once warmed up, it's likely the thermostat might have gone.

Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

Ha ha that's the best way to do it, at least you know the limits of the components! Although it could turn out to be an expensive way to do it if the piston turns out to be fractured when I get it x-rayed!

Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

The head was untouched which I'm happy about, I feared the valve seats might be damaged, and valve stems bent, but all checked over and new valves are seating perfectly! There are some markings on piston 2, but I should be able to polish most of that out, as long as there are no cracks or burr's on ...

Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

Sorry it's been such a long time with no updates, things have been a little hectic. I thought now would be a good time to update because once again, I've managed to break my engine!! :? There was one thing that was left standard on my engine, the valve springs. They are a fairly soft beehive ...

Re: Puma RS

I don't know if there is any performance benefit, its just easier to replace one coil then complete 4 tower coils. Those VW coils are supposed to be good for big power, I've heard of some guys running lots of boost and blowing the spark out with standard ford coil packs, but you can get some good up...

Nice work on the COP set up Ben, I've been considering going this way with mine, but my spark drivers aren't able to run 4 separate coils so id need to install 2 more spark drivers!

Looking very nice, it's coming along nicely. What size turbine housing are you going for? I have the GT3076 but have a tiny turbine housing to help it spool, hhowever I'm thinking of swapping for a V-band.
