If its a droning noise , it could be the front wheel hub bearing getting noisy or brake disc with rust on it in places or even the tyre. Did they let the wheels spin whilst, even in gear on a 2 post lift so that they could try and identify where the noise might be coming from? They may have just che...

450 mile round trip, 43mpg!

That's similar mpg as to what I get from mine at those speeds, so at least you know the cars running as it should. With that in mind, the Puma is a good package overall, with a trade off between performance and economy. Iirc, people on this site have had over 48 mpg travelling at under 60mph in the ...

Adequate ventilation is key. If its a concrete panelled garage, this can be a common problem. Things that will help is ensuring that there is a through draught from the opening door to the back wall, which maybe as simple as adding a few air bricks on that wall, assuming it doesn't have a door. If i...

Here's a few pointers , assuming the plugs are fairly recent i.e less than 40K , not oiled up & gap'd correctly. The puma had 2 types of coil packs fitted, the earlier type the gap should be 1.3mm & the later 1.0mm. Start by checking for oil around the spark plugs from a leaking rocker cover. If tha...

Fith Gear on Quest featured a Puma rear disc conversion in the Mod Shop

This appeared last night and a £500 kit was fitted off an ST . As it was an early Puma with the smaller discs I am surprised he didn't change them first as even just fitting the later bigger 258mm set up would have yielded a larger improvement, as most of the braking is done on the front. He had the...

1) Do a compression test on no 2 cylinder 2) What was your resistance reading with your multi meter for each of the 4 leads? 3) Do you have the earlier coilpack and if so did you gap the plugs to 1.3mm? 4) Depending upon the results of the compression test , it might be a stuck oil control ring whic...

Hi All

I would check first exactly where the new pipe is leaking from . It maybe as simple as tightening up a threaded fitting or sealing with ptfe tape or require an o ring or hydraulic washer. It would be very unusual for a recently replaced pipe to require replacing, unless it's suffered mechanical dama...

"My 1st choice for the Puma with a Standard 1.7 is Shell regular unleaded. I have found that both the throttle response and mpg are better than other fuels. However on a modified engine or including a FRP , then there will be an advantage in using V power , but none on a standard engine." So is V Po...

Check for air leaks at the Servo and also the cluster of vacuum hoses(approx 4 of them) including the rubber blanking plug cap . They are located between the idle control valve and the throttle body. Also check at the other end of each of the hoses. The blanking plug cap has been known to split due ...

1) Does your car have 1 or 2 lambda sensors?
If it has 2,
2 Did you change the sensor in the exhaust manifold , as that is the main sensor.

3) Have you plugged the car into a fault code reader yet?

4)What were the readings you got on the emissions print out?

Yes that will cause it . Check the black plastic plug ,where the sensor plugs into the loom on RHS just above the gearbox, as it may have become unplugged or the contact pins may need cleaning with electrical contact cleaner

Try slackening off the handbrake cable adjuster . It's a 10mm nut. Use a deep socket its underneath the cover surrounding the handbrake in the center consul. Then with the engine running press the brake pedal and you should hear the adjusters click to take up the clearance in the drum . If not, remo...

Hi Matt
Thanks for dedicating your time to this, I have noticed that the name of the poster(post author) now appears on the Right hand side and before it was on the left.
Is it possible and simple to swap the side they are displayed to as before?

Hi Jay With regard to the exhaust have you considered a side exit exhaust just in front of the rear wheel? This method was used successful on cars in the BTTC, as there are usually power gains to be had. That's of course assuming you have sufficient ground clearance? It will also be lighter so would...
