Just change the half of the remote fob with the circuit board in, that way the transponder will still be programmed to start the car. The remote will need reprogramming to work with the car. Instructions are in the users handbook or in the "How to guides" on here, it's very easy, but the first few attempts may fail, if you're not quick enough, as that happened with me, but now I've done it so many times on 3 different Puma's, i find it very quick and easy.

Update to this. I've cleaned key replaced battery but it's odd. I can open car from distance of either 20+ ft or right up close. Its as if the in car sensor is nor working. Where is that located

Following on from Johns reply, The other week i left my keys in my jeans and put them through the washing machine, didn’t do the fob much good Doh.
Anyway I purchased a new fob with key blank off eBay about £7.50.
In error I put my key on the new fob and easily programmed it to open and lock the doors.
I then tried to start the car, nothing. Very much as John mentioned, I then put the old bottom half with the battery and chip in it to the new top half with the circuit board. The engine started and the remote locking worked first time without further reprogramming.
Can I confirm the way I programmed my fob. Put the key in the ignition and turn it rapidly on and off until you hear a beep indicating that you are now in the programming mode. Then press any button on the fob and you should hear a further beep indicating the fob is programmed correctly.
