Hi
I need some support for a non Puma car a 2009 Focus.

the car will not start. When to turn the key the immobiliser light flashes and the engine does not turn.
I have had the instrument cluster tested and it is ok apparently. Ford want to change it for £1500 even though this may not fix the fault.

Do any of you fine fellows out there now of this and if there is something else I can try or more over a 'good' garage that diagnosis stuff properly rather than just replacing stuff.

I bit off topic and thanks for the help in advance.

Kind regards Ian

My dad's Focus had a similar problem, it turned out to be an design flaw in the instrument cluster, the £1500 is a bit steep but wasn't far off what he ended up paying for it. Apparently Ford offered a £100 recall fix for a few years then stopped it.
He got it officially diagnosed via a specialist in auto electronics. Try someone like that if all else fails.

My brother in law had the same on an 08 Focus, it was intermittent, some days it was fine others it would take dozens of switching on and off until eventually it would turn over. auto electrician fixed it for £50. (something behind the dashboard)
Bizarrely, before he had it fixed, it would start better if he turned the radio off before trying to start it!

Hi Folks,
Thanks for the help and suggestions.

All battery connections tight and body earth strap tight and paint cleaned away.
Further information.
Everything works, full pump primes, all dashboard lights glow, blower fan works everything, Turn the key and then nothing, just small click.

Further ideas or advice for a good mobile autoi electrician in the Bracknell area.

Kind regards Ian

Is that flashing 'normal' as far as you know? Does the immobiliser recognize the key..?

Hi
The car worked Fien until 2 weeks ago when staring became intermittent, then stopped altogether so key has worked with car before. Second key for car has the same effect.
Kind regards Ian
