So my puma had the following things replaced but I'm still hearing a loud clunk on the front driver's side when driving over potholes:

- Front top mounts
- Front shocks
- Front stabiliser links
- Front stabiliser bushes
- Engine mounts
- Lower gearbox mount

My mechanic is saying it's because of the rubber on top of the front strut holes but having a look at this it doesn't seem to be perished. However, when comparing to my other pumas, I noticed two things which are strange:

- The distance between the body and the rubber is way too high compared to the others (still this doesn't seem to be causing a clunk on the passenger side)
- The design of both the metal part and the rubber is different between the left side and the right side

I can replace these with one of the donors but I'm still not sure if this is what's causing the clunk :?

Are you sure they replaced the top mounts?

He is a trusted mechanic and gave me a supplier's invoice for the top mounts so I would be pretty surprised if he didn't!

Your "trusted mechanic" clearly has not fitted something correctly!

The first question is, why have you got different strut weight cups and strut weights on each side?
Your pictures show a huge difference is exposed threads.
A properly assembled standard Puma strut, prior to fitting under the wing, should look like this:

And the gap after fitting new components correctly, should be:

He may be trusted but it doesn't mean he did the job correctly. From the pictures I'd say the top mount isn't fitted. And if he let it leave the shop in the state that it's in, he wouldn't be trusted to touch a car again. As that's horrific.

Thanks for the useful info, unbelievable :fists: will go back and ask him to remove the struts making sure they're properly assembled before re-fitting and fit identical cups/weights. Hope no damage was done...
