Hi Guys,
just curious but is anyone running 200 horses or over ( NA ) in their Pumas and if so how did you achieve this? Cams, specialised tuning company? Reason I'm asking is that when I'm back in one I'm all about modding whether it's visual or for power or both.

I like a lower car which tbf is what the puma cries out for because the arch gap is horrendous,I also like the wheels to fill the arches nicely so either a wider wheel or spacers are the order of the day but all of that has to be mated with a bit more power so as above what have people done to achieve this?

Thanks guys
Ian

200bhp on a 1.7 and keeping it NA is very expensive and would cost a lot more than adding a charger or turbo.

Literally every internal part would need uprating, inc an ECU to keep it all in check.

To give you an idea of what is involved here is an old link, I am sure the price today would be more:-

Even then would be 180-185bhp.

Yeah, thought so,thanks all the same though,it's a shame that they are so underpowered, even the racing puma imo is underpowered

For me the stock 1.7 should have been in the 150-160 range and the racing puma should have been up around the 200 mark but it is what it is,still very cool cars, just a tad underpowered imo

Not if they were RWD,if Ford did a " do over " of the original Puma with more power,RWD,17 inch wheels and had it a tad lower ( because let's face it,they look like they are on stilts ) I reckon they would have sold a whole lot more than they did

The mk.1 Puma was the only Ford to have had a waiting list to buy one.
Ford stopped making them for several reasons, one because Yamaha would no longer supply the 1.7 engine and two, because the bodywork soft presses wore out.
