warrenpenalver said:surely thats a good thing!! if emissions are soo low they cant be read then whats the problem?? unless of course they are trying to make the standards even higher so you need more accurate gear.... but its pretty pointless if nothings coming out the exhaustbouncy said:The prob we have is that more and more manufacturers run their cars so clean nowadys its getting difficult to get an emission readings from the exhaust pipe!!! So changes are in the pipe line.
Warren, of course its a good thing. I was refering to a reason why they will be changing the way in which your vehicle will be tested in the future!!! Due to low emission outputs the current machines cannot detect say the smoke output of a modern diesel, hence why we now have to make sure the vehicle is rigged up to see revs when we do a emission test!! " If it sees revs even without the pipe up its chuff- it passes"
Hence shortly all vehicles from a certain date will in future be tested using your DLC and the data will be compared to the data supplied by the manufacturers - this is how they could find out if the vehicle has been chipped aswell.
These new methods will not affect the current cars we drive as they will be tested using the old methods (just as we do now with cat tests/non cat tests). The latest spec emission testing machines are capable of being upgraded to take Euro 5 regs. VOSA's just got to get their download speeds sorted out for the computors first........so that will be about another 20 years then!!!
All our stuff now is all bluetooth and we use your 16 pin (DLC) socket allready, so wont be long before the I-Phone as an app for it then...................lol!!!
