Since I owned the car the underside of the bonnet had some scorching to the paint. I’ve since found out this was an engine bay fire caused by leaking power steering fluid. 🫠

It was time to sort it with some left over paint I had. Prepped and sanded, primer and paint. Happy with the result and finally it’s no longer crispy. 🤣

Next up is the Aux belt and squeaky tensioner. I need to source one and then get them fitted. Awkward as this has had the AC removed. Obsolete at Ford now too 😭
Excellent work as always.

Little update:

The car is tucked up in the warm at home on trickle charge. Awaiting the warmer weather.

While hibernating (me and the car) I've started a project of learning to 3d model. Started learning over Christmas and used the dash triangle as a challenge. Pretty happy with the result.

Let me know if you can think of any other Puma bits that would be useful / helpful. Weather strips come to mind....

Hi all. I'm Tom. Based in sunny Southend-on-sea.

After far too long without a Ford in my life I've returned to the fold. Previous cars are a MK2 Fiesta, a couple of MK1 Ford Focus's builds and now a Puma Millennium.

Did some digging and to my delight this is a pretty well documented car thanks to one of the previous owners. Link to old thread. I've tried to get in contact with the previous owner to ask a few questions. No luck yet.

I've bought the car as something to spanner on and keep in the garage. Currently on 84k.

Engine looks to be standard. It has a 421 stainless exhaust system on it with sports cat. Lots of the underside mechanicals have been powder coated (See previous thread) Subframes, hubs etc.

So far I've:
  • Added a deep dish Kode steering wheel (mainly as it helps my seating position).
  • Polished the headlights as they were dull.
  • Given the leather a once over to revive some of it and fixed some stitching on the drivers bolster.
  • Sorted a bulkhead seal which was letting water into the cabin
  • Booked in tomorrow for a split CV boot and real wheel bearing

Plans are:
  • Cut out rust, replace panels and repaint. Panels are already on order from ExPress.
  • Replace bootlid as the rear window seal is leaking and its had a spoiler at some point (self tapper holes remain )
  • Something suspension related as it sits too high for my liking.
  • Enjoy at weekend keeping it alive.

Ive started an instagram account to keep track of progress and document it for the future. @W965RDU

Hey Wayne,

Happy to try and help.

Open the bonnet and as you look at the engine it will be top right. Sort of under the windscreen right in the corner. There is a loom that comes through the bulkhead and had a large rubber grommet (which often isn't seated properly) Ultimately this loom goes to the fuse box. This was the cause of mine a while back.

Hopefully that helps!

Decent weather yesterday so time to get her out.

After being sat on trickle charge she fired right up. Had a little run out to East Beach in Southend which hosts a weekly car meet. Good group of people and has a new Cafe which is worthy of a visit. :D Also found some Puma friends. IMG_4073.jpg
