Not sure if this is the correct section for this (if not happy to move it) .I've decided to do a resto thread for the puma I'm saving hopefully it'll help/inspire other people and hopefully you can add some hints/tips if im messing things up!! Bought this in July from Manchester low owners 75k original bill of sale FSH unfortunately plenty rust to sort out but for 600 quid why not.

I'm interested. Not too much rust but in difficult spots. Everything I can learn to fight enemy #1 pumas/fiesta is good. Stay strong against the rotten lord buddy 💪

Here's some more rust!!! and the back axle epoxy resin and poly bushed along with the tank repainted.Warning to anyone deducting your tank the metal is very thin and a flake easily becomes a hole so be careful with heavy grinder wire brushes etc!! Also you MUST wash tank out thoroughly and let air dry for days to get the fumes away.

Picked up some st150 calipers cleaned up treated for rust and freshly painted 🎨 also the bumper mounting brackets the left one was pretty corroded despite being kinda galvanized. Mk1 fiesta doubles as a work bench for the winter 🫣

I've removed the wings which are in decent nick . Treated any surface rust them painted with zinc primer then bilt hamber epoxy mastic , I also did the rear axle with bilt hamber and as a comparison its nowhere near as good as por15 ive used both on axles and the por15 is better but obviously comes in smaller tins for same price a litre of bilt hamber costs. Some corrosion bottom of door A pillars to be sorted this is quite an intricate shape was thinking of doing a more square simple design any welders out the advise for or against this??

POR15 is excellent, once it's cured , you can hit it with a hammer and it won't crack, used it on a new rear axle (Fiesta XR2) at least 10 years ago and still looks like new.

Treated the rust on the wings which are not too bad, mainly the bottom and inner arch parts .Mostly surface rust ive rubbed it down treated it with rust converter then primed with zinc primer, brushed over with bilt hamber epoxy mastic. I've also painted insides of the wings for added rust protection. I'm going to use different paints for different parts and ***** there performance hopefully I can help any future projects find the best corrosion protection .was looking at the raptor bed liner seems expensive so ordered the autotek one 3 cans 25 quid I've used this over isotonic brush on zinc primer inside rear wheel arches ill probably add bilt hamber dynax over the top see how it fairs.Car will be part of a collection so probably only do 3k a year max and avoid salty winter roads.

I use Bilt Hamber products on both of my Puma's, for any underbody rust, I use the rust converter, then after 24 hours for it to cure, use 2 coats of zinc primer, then 2 coats of primer, then 2 coats of gloss metal paint, then spray with underbody wax, seems to last very well, even on the Puma that isn't garaged and.it gets used all year round, whatever the weather.

I will take notes of this beauty treatment and Matty your puma is gona end better than new. What a exhaustive job!

So finally decided to go with bilsteins and pi lowering springs. unfortunately the b6 b8s seem to be discontinued on the rear unless you have the 'fork' type leg so ive went b4s on the rear and may go b6 or b8 up front for now. Also pick up stock clearance braided front brake lines and polybushed the front wishbones, ground them back fitted new balljoints and coated with epoxy mastic for corrosion protection 😀

Started the welding yesterday im.no welder but using this project to learn .I'm going to start with easier patches on the floor etc hopefully gaining enough skill to tackle the sill/floorpan later on failing that I'll pay someone as want it done to a good standard not bodged and needing addressed again in the future. I assembled the rear shocks tip for anyone in the future the b4 bilstein have a thicker body than the standard shock rods so the spring cap WILL NOT go over and slide down I have to drill them out slightly and thia needed a massive drill bit I had to borrow one 🤨

Good work. The 2002 Thunder I used to have patches over patches, that's why I decided it had to be sold on, but I'd done 10k miles in 18 months without any hassle.

After searching for weeks for front shocks availability is scarce ive decided to go with ST shocks up front .Hopefully get it rolling again at the wknd and get into the garage for welding .Decided to strip rear cards and trim in blue to match the recaros as well 🤔
