Is that a diesel Mondeo though? You would expect a diesel to last longer.

I'd never been in a Puma till I bought mine.. the sound from the 1.7 after 4k revs is brilliant!
I know what you mean, mine feels exactly as I bought it when it was only 70,000. And that subtle engine tone change is great I agree

Yep, was the old 1.9 ford turbo diesel engine on a 98R reg, so that's probably a lot to do with it.

Mind I got my little 1989 Orion 1.6 Ghia Auto to nearly 150k, but it was the bodywork that let it down, engine was still plodding! god I miss that little car, noisiest tappets on the planet! they seem to be so rare now! want one for my next project, but can only find good show ones and they cost thousands, or right old wrecks, which look about to explode!

Mines at 93500, cambelt change 13 months ago and I think it's JUST starting to flag a bit. Only last week I pointed out to my girlfriend that it didn't seem to 'put me into the seat' so much any more, and I've noticed a definite plateau of power in high revs.

Buuuuuut it's still super fun. For me it's all about the handling.

Prob needs a service or new spark plugs or something, they don't just die (unless something major has happened like the nikasil lining - but that isn't as common as people make out).

Mines sitting at 126,00 and now needing new plugs and a service I think as it seems to be losing a little of the "back in your seat" go that it had when it came out of the garage with its new belt/head gasket/plugs etc last year.

Looking to keep it as long as I can so aiming for the stars with the mileage

Put it thorugh a full service in December which incidentally fixed an overheating problem I had suspected to be thermostat or HCV. So I don't think it's that...

I just assumed these things happen if you thrash a car for too long :P

I believe mine is around the 113k mark but it is currently broken so while it may not be the highest, it's certainly not very healthy.

I have had my Puma 1.7, 13 years this year T reg 1999 - 130.000 on the clock and never let me down ever. Changed the Heater Control Valve last year myself as was having heating problems and fan kept kicking done some research after mechanics failed me and found out it was the heating control valve knackered cost £50 all in all to fix - very happy(via You tube instructions from a mechanic who was spot on with the problem) No cambelt change yet though so really pushing my luck but booking it in this month as dont want to tempt fate - love my car.. cant seem to find anything like the puma - not even close.....

We have two pumas on 130 and 167 thousand respectively. Both still pull well but the one with the most miles on is the quicker out off the two.

Highest mileage Puma?

Post by RICHARD MANSFIELD2 » Wed Nov 07, 2018 5:56 pm

Hi,
Mine has done 132k it still runs smooth and pulls well. However some of the horses must have left the stable by now, I would imagine they must have got away due to vale deterioration. I want to fit a modified head in the future for two reasons, the standard head must be coming up for a referb to restore performance, so whist going to all that trouble why not fit a modified head. I am not sure if whilst at it do a overhaul of the rest of the engine. I am not sure how many miles to expect before a engine rebuild.

Regards,
Richard.

Highest mileage Puma?

I've owned my puma from new 1999,so 19 years.
The mileage was 161,000 before it lost compression on one of the cylinders.
I've just had another engine fitted so hopefully, it will last me a few years if I don't sell it next year.

This was the highest I have seen. The odometer is in km.

The engine was spotless, and running like a clock!

My old silver puma hit 258k before it was written off. Link below is from when it "got to the moon" :)
