just curious what people have seen top end wise in their fettled pumas. im not that arsed about top speed generally but was curious. i had the use of an airfield the other day and mine was just about to hit the limiter in 5th, around 6500rpm just a hair off an indicated 140. didnt have the stones to push it to the limiter as i didnt want a monstrous backfire at those speeds (which mine likes to do on the limiter) and was rapidly running out of tarmac. thats on 195/50/15 tyres.

i think with a few hundered rpm extra to play with id see an indicated 150 as it was still pulling well.

would be interesting to work out exactly what speed that equates to via gps as im sure the speedos are bound to be off slightly!

mine does an indicated 140 in 5th at the limiter, never had gps running when I had had iot up there though.

ib5 box above 140 would be well dodgy I would think...

theres escort and fiesta turbos thatve done a proven 150+ at bruntingthorpe and survived. its torque and a lack of mechanical sympathy that kills gearboxes not revs and speed.

i highly doubt anyone has actually hit the limiter in 5th in a puma

I did a few times :) Being close to Germany means a lot of fast drives on the Autobahn. Softly downhill you can reach the limiter easily. I did 150 mph there a few times.

I've had 123 MPH on my sat nav from my 1.6.. (on a private road obviously  )

Accurate or not is another matter..

In a standard 1.7? It has no way near enough torque to reach the limiter and definitely won't touch 150 even if it was pushed off a cliff lol

I wouldn't like to even try and get 150mph from a 1.7... would need another engine at the ready

Had mine to just over 130mph. I did have 150mph in the Escort Cosworth many years ago & to be honest it scared the shit out of me even though the road looked clear at 6am it was surprising just how quickly I found myself having to brake

General note guys, this is a public forum. Do not incriminate yourselves, its fine to go above 70MPH on private land, on an autobahn, etc. but not on any public road!!!

Just come back from a 1200 mile trip in France.Bog standard 1.7 had 110 mph on satnav couple of times indicated 120 or so on speedo. To be honest they are so slow after 100mph you get bored waiting. But still the best little car on the twisty bits.

indeed, im lucky enough to be in the forces and have access to disused airfields every now and then!

Would be a bit wary hitting the limiter, they like to jump teeth!

I've only done 120, gets a little hairy and incredibly noisy with zero interior
