Plastic roof strip

Post by the old gimmer » Tue Jun 04, 2019 11:14 am

I’m having difficulty sticking the black plastic strip that runs the length of the car on both sides of the Puma roof. I’ve thoroughly cleaned both surfaces before fixing the black foam double sided tape to the roof gully. I’ve then used a heat gun( the wife’s hairdryer !) to heat the black plastic roof rail to get it as flexible as possible before sticking it to the double sided tape.Ive then held the roof rail in place with tape and left it for 24hrs to bond. Try as I might the rail just seems to lift slightly at each end braking the double sided tape bond.
I’m thinking of using a better quality tape 3m VHB double sided tape next.
Has anyone experienced similar problems and come up with an alternative solution

If you really want it to stick. Get some window bond that they use to put windscreens in. Either use some really good tape to pull down or weights that wont slide off and smash the screen/paint
