I’m staring up at the crank and I’ve got original big end bearing sets from way back when it was clear parts were going to dry up.
Does anyone have bad news stories about reshelling the 1.7 big ends?
She’s on 105k miles, journals look pristine and doing this to steel cranks has always been acceptable but not best practice.

Any thoughts...?

I would just beg you to post the images of original big end bearings, if possible, as they have, to the best of my knowledge, never been offered as a replacement part?
And, why would replacing the big end bearings benot the best practice? But, if yours look pristine, no need for replacement. The bottom part of 1.7 is a really good built; I would take out some plastigauge and check the clearance. If it is within tolerances no need for replacement IMHO. But would replace the big end bolts.
