Front wheel spacers?!?

I have a standard puma 15" 9 spoke wheels and my puma is lowered 40mm.
I want to space the front wheels out slightly by like 15mm each side but my question is.
Is this a bad idea handling wise? do i need hubcentric spacers? Will it make it handle worse?
Will it need tracking to be done again?
What spacers have other people used? Thanks!

I have used these with 17" wheels as the offset was something like ET42. The car is lowered 40mm+ on coilovers and I have not really noticed any adverse handing. They have been on for quite a while now and still have not had the tracking done even though its out due to fitting a 300mm brake upgrade a couple of months ago. Note to self - Must get tracking done :)
 
Thats exactly what i'm after but its so expensive! Surely there are better cheaper kits out there?!
 
would have to be hubcentric, as its the centre that takes the load of the wheel, bolts just keep in place, there is a big difference handling wise between using spacers to increasing track, and using spaces to correct track due to different ET on wheels

Having given my puma on standard suspension a proper hammering on track, it may look a a bit 'wallowy' but is very controllable and feels well suited to car, personally, the biggest handling problem on the puma is the standard seats, as lack of support, sculpture, and designed more for an old dear to drive to town once a week, they are a must do, before even thinking of going anywhere with suspension, if you are going for handing rather than just looks.

My feeling is anything that stiffens up and looses standard characteristics, moves away from what the car was designed to drive like, ford spend thousands, and have specialist engineers to set the suspension, obviously within budgets and parts bin robbing, but its often hard without a lot of specialist knowledge and expensive experimentation, to improve on stock.

just my ramblings, but having seen the pain of people who have bought and then binned fairly fancy set ups, and driven cars with various mods that make car look and sound better, but at the expense of the driving experience.

Really you need to find some cheap 2nd hand 15mm spacers, book a trackday, fit an in car camera and you can then do side by side direct comparisons.
 
just another small comment, early wheels (propeller style) with 3mm spacers don't seem to affect handing, but there is an adverse affect if run 3mm spacers on the 9 spoke, so not sure if that is due to tyres, wheels or what, but run 3mm spacers on my track wheels.
 
I agree whit what Lord B says, but I would like to add, if your going to use spacers, usse them at both ends, not just the front, or just the back... :)
 
Maybe Wrong, but IIRC on FWD you need slightly wider front track than rear, or will increase under steer, not sure on how much additional wear large amounts of spacing puts on wheel bearings, potentially getting wider track front and back will shorten geometry front to back (think triangles and Pythagoras, although not a perfect right angel triangle, you are shortening the hypotenuse)

I ran Koni Adjustables on my T5, and on full hard, was far less forgiving if you put in a little to much steering, setting a little softer, was far more controllable and fun if provoked on track.

On the front, + the cost of hub removal, splitting the hubs, fitting new wheel bearings and reassembly.
 
YOG i have had 4 new wheel bearings fitted last month before i changed all my suspension.
What does the job involve?
 
You have to split the hub to fit the extended bolts. When you do this, you damage the bearings and have to fit new ones.
