My Puma started to do this weird sound today and it changes according to the heater fan position. If the heater fan is turned off, it stops. Is it heater fan? Can it even be anything else? Fan also chirped at the winter. Here is a video I shot:

New heater fans seem quite pricey on Ebay, when shipping to Finland included. About 100-200 euros. Would anyone have an idea if Cougar heater fan fits to Puma? Or some other Ford's? Also, this propably can't be fixed with just some WD40?

My guess its either the fan bearing itself or something got in there leaves or something else.

Its a pig of a job to take out the dash if that's what you end up having to do :(

Good luck with it :thumbs:

Do I have to take dash out to fix this...? This suggested otherwise: http://www.justanswer.com/uk-ford/5z8wy-ford-heater-motor-the-local-garage-tells-fan-faulty.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I stand corrected my apologies I thought it was in the main heater blower box inside the car.

You don't have to; apparently that link is wrong. I went to my Puma and did a little investigation and the main heater blower is located inside the car, in the passengers footwell (my Puma is LHD). It seems that whole dash needs to be removed, but not 100% sure about this. Is there some guide how to remove the dash?

Thanks! I hope I really don't have to see all that trouble for a little fan.. :(

Got the same problem as the video above. Must be the heater blower fan. Anyone knows if it's accessible without removing dash?

According to the Fiesta Service and Repair Manual (3397), the blower motor can be removed via the scuttle. However, I assume you have LHD, so there is apparently further work to be done, i.e. the Air Conditioning will need discharging.

The fan can be removed from the scuttle. During my engine bay restoration I took out the pollen filter under which the fan sits. I fitted a replacement fan because the original was noisy. And guess what - it’s worse!! Got to do it again. Getting the pollen filter out means taking off the cardboard panel holding the HCV and other stuff and then trying to jiggle out the pollen filter without damaging it. It does help if the AC pipes and HCV pipes are disconnected.
My advice - if you can put up with the noise, leave it alone.
