hi guys

just noticed that my puma 1.4 makes a ticking noise when accelerating and on load.
it is no knocking just ticking. ticking gets faster with rpm.
should i be worried or is it solvable

It's likely to be the valve clearances. The Sigma/Duratec engines are notorious for tappet noise, as a 152000 mile 1.25 Fiesta in my possession will attest. They are mechanical - instead of the later style hydraulic lifters - so can be adjusted. However they are shim type, not the easy to adjust screw type you get on pushrod engines. So you need to measure the clearances, do some maths, order the correct shims for any that need adjustment, remember which ones they are when they arrive, and then fit them.

@ el dude yes this wire is broken for some time now but i just screwed it of cause it was just hanging there.

@ tgplayer and how do you do that or could a mechanic (ford dealer) do this for me cause i am getting a little bit annoyed by the ticking especially when the weather is nice and drive with the windows open.

It's something of an involved job and is made an awful lot easier with specialist tools. It would take me far too long to describe it, plus I'll probably get it wrong. The Haynes manual for the mk4/5 fiesta shows you how to do it, but like I say it's no easy task. Any garage worth their salt would be able to do it, but Ford will have the tooling and the correct shims available.
