Hi,

I'm in the middle of fitting a pair of new Piper FRP cams to my 1.7 and I've hit an issue.

I'm not able to get the FRP timing tool into notches at the end of the camshafts. It's almost as is the tool is a little too thick.

In the attached pictures you can see the issue i'm having.

Has anyone else come across this?

The cams are torqued down and rotate ok.

Is there anyone on Merseyside who I could borrow a FRP tool from for a couple of days? I'll cross your palm with silver.

Thanks,
Ben.

Won't the usual 1.7 timing tool fit?
The ends of those Piper cams look the same as the standard ford cams to me?

Thanks for the reply!

I've double checked using a vernier/caliper gauge and it looks like FRP tool I have is 2mm too think on the exhaust side.

The standard tool I have fits so I'm going to crack on with this:-

Cheers,

 hope it goes well, let us know how you get on, I haven't seen that guide mentioned for a long time!

I used that guide when I installed the FRP cams in mine. Worked like a treat.

Errol on here as Pumanoob kindly wrote a useful article where iirc he used the standard cam tool and for 1 of the cams inserted a modified length crank pin tool(to compensate for using the standard Zetec cam tool) for use iirc for the one cam that was different on the FRP tool which may have possibly been the Exhaust?

Errols aricle is here:
