Greetings! I recently purchased a 1999 1.7 Puma and after pulling codes I found the following:

P1380 Variable CAM Timing Solenoid Circuit Fault | PATS
P1383 Variable CAM Timing Overretarded | PATS
P1380 Variable CAM Timing Solenoid Circuit Fault | PCM
P1383 Variable CAM Timing Overretarded | PCM

The engine sounds okay and isn't misfiring, but the codes are a bit worrying. What could be the cause and how do I go about fixing it? I'm guessing the VCT solenoid needs to be replaced, but is there anything else?

Those symptoms suggest bad/no connection to VCT solenoid. It lives on top of head to left hand side of plugs. Think you have to remove the plastic beautification cover to access the plug. Pull plug off and check wiring - with ignition on there should be at least one wire with a voltage I expect. Another is probably earth.
