Hi,

Just bought a cheap 2001 1.7 to use for a bit.

Probably a bit late now but anything I should be looking for?

Cheers

Dave

welcome to the forum.

rusty arches are common
when the cambelt was done (its every 5 years or 80k miles whichever comes first)

I guess it will need doing then. How much should I be paying?

Arches arent too bad, one of the cleaner ones I looked at.

As far as mods go it all depends on what you want from your Puma.
There are loads of things you can do from cheap to mega bucks.
Its entirely up to you :?:

Hi and welcome!

Whereabouts are you? We might be able to point you in the direction of a decent garage for cambelt replacement; due to the variable cam timing you ideally want to take it to someone who's done one before or they'll likely cock it up.

Common mods:
Upgrading the head unit/speakers or installing the remote control stalk out of a Focus to control the stock headunit
Installing a leather interior if you've got a cloth interior, or bucket seats and alcantara interior from the limited edition Racing Puma
Lowering the suspension with Eibach lowering springs or coilovers
Bigger alloys up to 16" or 17"
Putting a light in the glovebox
Installing a posh temperature clock out of a Fiesta Ghia X
Changing the colour of the LEDs in the dash / switches
Chrome dials on the dash clocks
Upgrading the air intake - panel filter, cone filter, etc
Installing angrier cams, uprated inlet manifold, ECU remap, strut braces, that kind of thing
Upgrading exhaust with 4-2-1 manifold, sports cat etc
Bigger / better brakes
Rear disc conversion
Installing a front splitter / rear spoiler
Installing poly bushes

Look in the How To section - there's all sorts of guides on how to mess with your new toy.

Cheers for that, I'll have a look around.

I'm in Nottingham. I have a mate who's a Renault specialist so used to the cam timing on Clio 172s but I don't think he has done one of these.

There's a member on here, El Dude, in Nottingham. He certainly knows his way around a Puma; does a lot of Alcon brake servicing for Racing Puma owners, sound installations, rust treatment/rustproofing and other maintenance.

Even he doesn't do his own cambelt. Might be worth seeing where he takes his.
