Hello!
A year long happy 1999 1.7l Puma owner here from Finland, nice to meet you all!

I was recently looking to possibly get remote keys from ebay. I just have the key with a transponder (red cap), and a extra plain key. This what I believe the car came with when the original owner bought it, my puma does have central locking and alarm systems.

Is it possible to get a remote key and have it work, as long as I have a locksmith to cut the new key, following these steps I found on this forum post about reprogramming the keys. Is this just a far fetched, overly expensive and complicated, and not really worth the trouble?

Welcome to the site!

If it has all of the components for remote central locking then the key cutting and programming part should be simple.

The locksmith would clone the key so that the immobiliser transponder works for your car.

You would then program the remote central locking using he instructions to allow the new key to open the car. (Or the locksmith might do this for you if they are at your car)

I'm not sure about European models and whether they all came with the parts for RCL, so would not like to say that this would work.

Hi guys, recent owner here of a 2001 1.6 model, (european in case it matters) and fairly confused about the whole keys thing, would really appreciate your help:
I just got 1 simple (and not even Ford official) key, and I want to have at least a 2nd one and, if possible, being a remote key fob, and this avoiding spending a ridiculous amount at Ford.
I guess getting a clone of my key is simple, but for the key fob I just don't know:
- to start: with: how do I know if the car is prepared for remote central locking?
- if it is, would the locksmith just make a clone of the key (remember, it's already a clone itself) and I would program the fob following the steps shown in the post referred here above?
Thanks in advance!

Over here in the UK a 2001 would have certainly had RCL.

If it were me, I would just buy a cheap remote and try to program it to the RCL, if that works get a nice one for cloning.
