Hello just purchased a 1.7i 2002 Puma in Scotland. Went into a dealership in Edinburgh In launch year but didn’t fancy the no discount price and waiting list for silver of 3 months. Took a few years but got one in the end!

Q. Tyres - what is the recommendations of best make for new rubber from the experienced owners?

Q. Headlights- not great visibility on looking around the site so do nothing or upgrade the bulbs only or the whole unit via eBay and bulbs. Waste of cash? Not cloudy.

Q. Steering wheel has had a nick out if it has anyone a recommendation on a new standard wheel site/service. Not looking to upgrade. Thanks for reading.

Hi David
I use cheap standard tyres, but good all weather (in wet) on the front, need grip in winter.
Headlights are crap, I use HID just to see, adjustment as standard fitted, I have no probs, swop at MOT time. That's my choice no matter what anyone else says (heard it all before). Only an idiot would drive a car with none or little light.
Steering wheel is no problem, just pay 5 or 6 quid for a china import of leather and sow it on yourself, nice black with maybe blue or red bits and coloured twine. Take your time and looks better than a replacement wheel at a fraction of the cost.
I used to deliver new puma's etc. in 1999 and boy where pumas fast for then, and only got mine 4 years ago for 550 a snip. Just look at crap escorts now, slower in any standard form, poor handling and no mod cons. You do the maths :)

Hi David

Re :-Tyres.
I can recommend Michelin Pilot sport 3's on the Puma.
I am running PS3's and they give good mileage and importantly are rated as "A" for both the wet and dry grip.Michelin tyre's are often on offer at Costco , but ensure to get either the PS3 or PS4 profile tyres.

Camskill is also a good source for tyres.

If you can't stretch to the cost of the PS3's , then the Uniroyal Ransport 5's will grip just as well in all conditions , however they won't last as long as the Michelins's do as they are made in the Continental Tyre factory.
Continental tyres are unlikely to exceed 14k miles , the same as the Uniroyals.
Here's the current prices within this link:

- I use Michelin Pilot sport 4, they seem pretty good, same as what DOH said really.
- You could try Osram Nightbreakers, they're one of the best bulbs you can get for the Puma
- You can get the rubber fiesta wheels on ebay, I use one in mine, reason being is they clean up like new, whereas a lot of puma wheels have melted leather. The fiesta one is the same fitment as the puma. See pic:

IIRC, you can only get the Michelin Pilot sport 3 for the 15" wheel size.

Tyres really depends on how you are using the car, i.e. trying to get the most mileage or the most grip in dry.

For the lights, first start by cleaning the units up properly and replace the bulbs with some new ones, there's lots of posts on here about differences between bulbs, some even had comparison photos from memory.

As Russ says you can replace the steering wheel with one from a mk3/4 Fiesta as they are the same basically.
