Hi everyone, I thought I would take this opportunity to say hello and introduce myself and my sons Puma project.

I had been considering a Puma for many years as a project once my boys had grown up a bit. I spent 8 years in sales for Ford between 2004 and 2012 and in my own youth owned and repaired a number of Mk1 Escorts with my father and grandfather, however the price of a Mk1 has sky rocketed in recent years and makes a project car unattainable price wise. I always really loved the size, shape and overall driving dynamics of the little Puma during my wearily days with Ford. It always caught my attention every time one came in for service or repair and so as a more modern yet still mechanically workable car I thought it was perfect for my son and I. It turns out my enthusiasm for the ‘not so old’ Ford Puma is reciprocated by my 18 year old son too 😁 and so we bought a 141k 2000 1.4 in Moondust Silver early last year for his birthday.

Mechanically it was perfect, full service history, timing belt done twice 70 and 140 miles and was really fun to drive. It had the usual problems though - rear arch rust, sill rust, spare wheel carrier has pretty much disintegrated and the paint and body was poor all over from various average quality repairs. However, I felt it was the perfect project for my son and I to work on together.

I have been through the website to get a few tips already and generally dream about getting our car up to same standard a number of members on here. The site has been a great resource to help me sort out a few niggles we have had keeping it running but we have decided to now take it off the road 1. because it’s battery failed and now I have replaced it it won’t run at all, it won’t even crank (I’ll put a question about it in another section) and 2. we really need to do all the bodywork jobs soon and properly as it has no chance of passing its NCT (Ireland’s MOT) with its current rust.

I hope to post some pictures when I am allowed and I know I will need to ask a number of questions during the repair and rebuild. I hope you all don’t mind me asking.

Speak soon

Hi Andy

Welcome. it is so good to hear your plans with your Puma. It is refreshing to hear that your son will be involved, nothing like getting the younger generation on board.

Regards.
Richard

Welcome Andy,

Happy to see a new project. Unfortunately the forum is very quiet these days. All of the action has moved to FB group. But as a knowledge base the forum is priceless.
