Nice one Andy, they are still good Fords, shame we can't all afford the rear wheel drive cars.

Thanks Guys I appreciate your comments :-)
To mrbushrat the colour's Sebring red but as you said it's more orange than red. With it's new owner up in the North East it's a slightly lighter colour and is running a Lotus twink. Not many Avengers left now but I've seen some at shows this year in fact at one show I saw 2 Chrysler 180s or (200s)? parked next to each other. Didn't they do a special Avenger, a Tiger or a Holbay?

The special avenger was called the tiger and was a 1600 with twin 40s with 110bhp it was quick in its day.
I will put a build thread up if it would interest people.
How she looks after the conversion.

Looks very similar to an Escort in the engine bay. What's the Blacktop, a 1.8 or 2.0 and where did you get the carb set up from, Chester sportscars or Boggys? Hope you aren't having the usual starter motor problems with your set up.
Wasn't there an Holbay Avenger with a breathed on 1725?

It's a far easyer conversion on an avenger as you don't have the issues with the x-member used a seirra starter and starts on the button. It's Chester's kit and thay use a bogg manifold in there kit. There was a BRM that used a 1800 or 2000 bottom end with a 16v head but we're poorly developed as psa took over and vent with the sunbeam lotus.

The starter motor issue I was talking about was the hot starting one as on some set ups the exhaust manifold runs too close to the starter and overheats it so it's a pig to start when hot. Westfields as this
4665
Don't usually have this problem as the exhaust goes sideways rather than back alongside the starter. Or run on an MT75 box which places the starter on the other side
I should have noticed yours is a 2 litre as well as it has the extra idler pulley :-)
Ah Lotus Sunbeams, quick but bloody quick to rot.

That's the best way to build 'em as it saves you a fortune and makes you think about things. As far as Rads go most of the Westy guys go for VW Polo rads from Boston radiators as they were only £35 a go and are easy to mount (plastic sides and alloy cores) and are not prone to vibration cracking like some solid alloy ones can be. What's the Avenger knocking out now? Standard on bike carbs 165bhp?

Think some off the escort lads use polo ones. The bmw fits the avenger and the pipe work is in the correct place ish. It should be about 165bhp so plenty more if I want to.
Need to get the old girl back in the road as she been sat in the back off the garage for nearly 2 years. But have got to build my rally puma first as its got to be all dun for October.

What you doing with the rally Puma then? Are you going to go really exotic and RWD it?

Bit off topic but hey its Christmas....had a Holbay Hunter GLS years ago, very quick for its day, pulled like a train, loved it, also had a Chrysler 180 with a ford V6 under the bonnet....very, very loud

Ah so that's what I was getting mixed up with when talking to mrbushrat, it was a Hunter not an Avenger. Could be mistaken but I think Escort builders used to raid Chrysler 180s for their rear disc brakes? Will be back on topic soon but having a break with my son, eating crap and trying to find episodes of big bang I haven't seen on my series 1-6 box set xmas present

The puma is going to be a tarmac rally car. You are correct about the c180 rear brakes I sold a c180 back axle for 600 at the beginning of the year as their like rocking horse poo!

Good luck with the rally car. Wish I'd kept a load of spares years ago that would be worth a fortune now. 711m blocks, Escort sills.wings front panels etc. They were cheap as chips.

Thanks very much.
I saw your thread earlier about problems with your Puma and was going to reply but was hoping someone nearer would. If it's not sorted already you need someone near with plug in diagnostics to give you a clue what the problem could be which would at least narrow it down. Good luck with that and a happy new year

Cheers should be a quick build as I have been collecting parts for the past few months. Some off the old stuff is worth a fair bit now. Wish u were on my door step as I would quite happily pay for your standard off work.
