Hi

Not new to the site but new to posting, a lot of really good info on here!

I am having trouble reprogramming a key and want to check I'm not being an idiot..

I have a 99 Puma with a single 3 button remote. To rectify this knowing you need two keys to program a new one, I got the local Shoe Repair store to cut me a 2nd Key. This works fine and I now have two keys which start the car, but only one remote central locking fob.

I have a 3rd key bought of ebay which i got cut and want to program myself to start the car, that way if I lose a key i still have two!

However trying to follow method 2, Im just having no luck. Done the 0 to II with both keys in succession and then when I do it with the third no luck, the clock led just flashes meaning programming failed.

Wondered if the key off ebay has a duff chip and if anyone could send a link to one that will definitely work?

Thanks

So, the second key you got cut at the shoe shop starts the car?
How did this key get programmed to the immobiliser to start the car. Was it programmed (cloned) from the first key?

To program another key to the immobiliser, the two 'already programmed' keys need to be different. If one is 'cloned' from the other, that does not make two different keys, it makes two, but the same.

Ah interesting, im not aware if he cloned it or not, but I'm guessing that as all he had was the original it must be. I presumed that it would be a new one....might have just made a £55 mistake!

Is there anyway to find out if its a clone or not?

I thought it might not be working because the third key is a red transponder and I thought maybe a blue one should be used?

Thanks

Hi there,

First of all I would like to mention that I'm a totally newbie having similar problems to yours.

I had an idea to know if two keys are clones. If I'm wrong, please correct me :)
Here it goes: In the owner's manual it says how to erase from the memory all the keys but the two you use in the erasing procedure. To do this I think you also need two different keys. If it works, it may mean you have two different keys, and not clones.

I tell you this because I wasn't able to program the 3rd key, but tried the erase procedure and it worked.

Anyway, given what you said, I also think you probably have two cloned keys, but maybe you can get another cloned transponder and get it into your remote.

I hope I explained it OK, if not, please ask :)

Cheers

Brand new batteries in the fob the key fob is working fine as in the bulb works but the puma wont go into programming mode to detect the key in the first place.

Thanks in advance

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. After changing batteries the FOB doesn´t open the car.
(Two keys infrared key, early 98 1.7i Puma).
I tried to reprogram the remote, but when changing the contact from position 0 to I, the led in the clock stays blinking the same way it does when the car is closed or when no key inthe contact. so it never enters the programming mode.
Maybe i didn´t understand the instructions, but i think the LED must stay on after a while, then i have to turn the key from I to 0 and start with the programming procedure in front of the car sensor.

I would thank any help.

Any body figure out how to get the Puma to go in programming mode??
Thanks for help

Turn ignition from position 0 to I and leave it until light on clock flashes stupid?

Thanks for encouraging reply.
I have quoted 2 previous comments..... for a reason, . it means when the car doesn't go automaticaly in programming mode( in position I, ), how can you get it in programming mode in a different way......
Maybe someone out there is wyser, and can offer some good advice
Thanks for your time

Hello,
I was just wondering if you could help me.
Got Ford Puma R reg. Key fob problem.
Opened key to replace batteries and a glass "thing" fell out. Its about 25mm long, 3 to 4mm thick, made of glass and i can see something like a copper wire spun around like a transformer or similar, plus a few electronic components inside it (i would think something like a transmitter??).
I put that glass "thing" to the only place it fits in the fob (it sits loose, not attached to anything) but when i close it, it rattles; which it didn't before!!!! The fob doesn't open the doors any more!! I have just tried the 2 button option you kindly suggest but the dashboard light doesn't "stay on" after 10 seconds, not even after a minute!!!!!!!
Tried to proceed, ignoring the tip the Alarm light stays on, press & hold lock till remote flashes (once) press unlock 4 times then release buttons. Remote then flashes 4 to 5 times, turn key in to 1 to exit programming but still doesn't open doors
Any help would be very much appreciated
Thank you for your time
Kind regards
Dino

Hi Konstantinos. From what you describe, I think ur IR transmiter is broken. I am not a specialist but just a DIY enthusiast.
I sugest you get that "glass thing" attached/welded to your remote before you can have any chance to succeed.
From the top of my head I say you don't sound knowledgeble about welding electronics so maybe you can get someone to do it for you(cheap....)
Maybe is worth considering getting a new fob on ebay or similar( same type of course) and install it on your key to see if you can reprogramme it( following method presented here...)
my problem is that the fob is working but the car is not entering in programming mode---- a result of either faulty CL module or wirring fault somewhere...
Good Luck

can anyone help with my current issue in regards to the keyfob,

GF came out this morning & it wouldnt unlock, locked fine last night when she came in,

my biggest issue is that i cant open the doors with the key, it will turn either way but doesnt open,

now i know that if you double plip the remote it deadlocks the car, if the dumb bitch has done that would this explain why i cant open the doors with the key?

reason i ask is she did the same with a passat we owned before & end result was me smashing a window to get in cos she had deadlocked that when she parked it up

Deadlocking it means that you can't open it from the inside using the handles, you would still be able to open the locks using the key from the outside.

Have you tried a new battery in the fob? Can you open the boot with the key?

I remember reading in my manual that if the car is deadlock, you should be able to deactivate it by opening any door with your key.
As you mentioned, you tried but no luck.
Before you make any damage, I sugest spray some WD40 in your locks and leave it for few hours and try d key again. it might be the case that the locks are dirty.
Also the previous fella sugestion, replace the batteries, or inspect your fob for loose conections in the battery part.
i remember seeing somewhere that if you take the batteries out, try to replce them whithin 15-20seconds, so you won't have to reprogram the fob.

well i had tried replacing the batterys as suggested with no luck, & i found i couldnt unlock either door or the boot with the key, in the end i pulled the door top open & hooked the handle inside to open the door & then went about reprograming the key as described at the start of this thread, since then its been fine,

Funny business those keys for Ford...
I have a spare key that is only new cut but not programmed to start the car and that key can open the drivers and passenger door and the one that is old and worn can only open the passenger door's lock.

Tried as per instructions for a 3 button and doesn't seem to go into programming mode. Any ideas or diagnosis?

Was considering buying a new fob on ebay with the case and microswitches and swapping over the internals.

Just bought the car a few days ago and forgot to check remote when buying, it starts the car fine but none of the remote stuff works. The lock in the boot seems to be worn out too, so the remote bootlid would be helpful to get working again.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The problem with fords is if you dont use the keyholes they seize up. My cousin came up from down south for a funeral a few months ago and locked the keys in the boot of his 09 ford focus, got a locksmith out to pick the locks and it took him about 2 hours to free off the lock with copious amounts of GT85 because the car had only been locked and unlocked via the remote. Moral of the story is: 1, dont lock your keys in the boot and 2, use the keyholes occasionally to stop them from seizing.

If i was the change my ECU from DIVE to TAPE I presume the central locking would no longer work? and that I would need the suitable fob to go with the ECU?
