That's the best way to build 'em as it saves you a fortune and makes you think about things. As far as Rads go most of the Westy guys go for VW Polo rads from Boston radiators as they were only £35 a go and are easy to mount (plastic sides and alloy cores) and are not prone to vibration cracking like some solid alloy ones can be. What's the Avenger knocking out now? Standard on bike carbs 165bhp?
Barry

Think some off the escort lads use polo ones. The bmw fits the avenger and the pipe work is in the correct place ish. It should be about 165bhp so plenty more if I want to.
Need to get the old girl back in the road as she been sat in the back off the garage for nearly 2 years. But have got to build my rally puma first as its got to be all dun for October.

Bit off topic but hey its Christmas....had a Holbay Hunter GLS years ago, very quick for its day, pulled like a train, loved it, also had a Chrysler 180 with a ford V6 under the bonnet....very, very loud

Ah so that's what I was getting mixed up with when talking to mrbushrat, it was a Hunter not an Avenger. Could be mistaken but I think Escort builders used to raid Chrysler 180s for their rear disc brakes? Will be back on topic soon but having a break with my son, eating crap and trying to find episodes of big bang I haven't seen on my series 1-6 box set xmas present

The puma is going to be a tarmac rally car. You are correct about the c180 rear brakes I sold a c180 back axle for 600 at the beginning of the year as their like rocking horse poo!

Good luck with the rally car. Wish I'd kept a load of spares years ago that would be worth a fortune now. 711m blocks, Escort sills.wings front panels etc. They were cheap as chips.

Thanks very much.
I saw your thread earlier about problems with your Puma and was going to reply but was hoping someone nearer would. If it's not sorted already you need someone near with plug in diagnostics to give you a clue what the problem could be which would at least narrow it down. Good luck with that and a happy new year

Cheers should be a quick build as I have been collecting parts for the past few months. Some off the old stuff is worth a fair bit now. Wish u were on my door step as I would quite happily pay for your standard off work.

Next up was the horrible rusty mess that was the remains of my spare wheel carrier it really did let down the underside of the car.

It took about 5 minutes to grind off the 8 spot welds that held the pressed steel cover in place.

My plan was to replace the cover with one made of aluminium and to fix it on using captive M5 or M6 nuts welded to the carrier frame. So I cut out the apprx 1 mm thick ali sheet to the same dimensions as the steel one.

Then I started to put the flanges onto the sides of the sheet.

Then fitting up to the existing frame

Just to weld the captive nuts on the underside now and fix the sheet using s/s capheads. Also I will have to weld the ali sheet where I had to split it to bend it around sharp corners.

Thanks again Cherryvimto but I wouldn't have been able to post properly without your help with the photos :)

That's nice! Good idea for those wanting to keep the spare wheel carrier.

I chopped mine off and took the spot welded brackets off the bottom of the car

Thanks Moondustka I didn't want to resort to no spare wheel or a can of tyre Gel, I don't trust that stuff.

Anyway managed to get the captive nuts welded onto the frame today

Then drilled the aluminium plates and mounted the 2 together. Unfortunately I didn't have any S/S caphead bolts but I'm going to the Autosport tomorrow so should get some there.

Only got to ali weld the rear flange, straighten up some of the folds and de-burr the edges and that's it for now

Hi ukpuma.
I don't know whether you mean the rubber bit or the bib but the rubber bit is just reinforced rubber belt bought from an autojumble that I cut out with a very sharp Stanley knife through the standard bumper rubber strip (for the fixing points) but I made it 2" deeper than the standard one so it's about 95mm of the floor. The bib is a standard bib that I carbon wrapped(to cover deep scratches).
Hope that helps
Barry
