[post]354933[/post] I love how wide the S1600 kit looks. Cannot wait to put it on mine.

It's a great kit,the only thing I will say is if you want the car to look low then this won't do that! Even with 18s it still looks like it's a 4x4 (in the other sense) and if I lower it much more I'm going tone in trouble with clearance issues at some points..

But it is a rally kit so it's the look!

Trust me, mine is not as wide as yours, I'm only FRP width, but I tried lowering the back a little more, and the wheels dug into the arches, pulled the arch lip out and sliced my tyres at the same time. I won't be trying that again in a hurry!

Ouch the hard way of finding out you've gone too far. The back doesn't look too bad if you accept the rally look I guess, it's the front. It just doesn't look right.. Might try and see if the front can lower a bit but the exhaust is a mess and will catch.. Another item on the to do list!

I just love the rally look. No need to go any lower IMHO. The best car looks ever are the rally cars in FInland spec. Gravel tyres that are not to wide, the car is almost everyday high/low....
Your car looks epic

So long overdue but an update on the car..

I had a busy week leading up to Ford Fair last year and looked into the front TCA's which were a mess to say the least.. the plan was to remove and repair and fit new poly bushes..

Old arms..

So got the pair shot blasted at my mates ready for some repair works

So the plan was to carefully TIG weld more material back on the arms and then carefully shape them to what I wanted. These arms were 'made' to accept puma ball joints on the end which allows the hub to end up in the right place and also makes them easy to be replaced and fit

Add some paint and poly bushes

And the end result..

So with those looking finished I got them fitted back and the car (stupidly didn't get any photos) - car feels much tighter on the front end now, which is no surprise seeing the state of the old bushes!

That's all for now, will get a little more up soon. I briefly improved the breather system before ford fair too so I'll get some pics up of that.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Dan
Those look a little like adapted MK1/2 Escort TCAs and if they are anything like an old Escort they are a pig to re-fit with the tension of the ARB.
Barry
PS I have the panels for you

Hi Barry, yeah that's right they are very similar. Even with tinge added bonus of being able to loosen the ball joint - TCA connection they still required ben and I to strap the sodding anti roll bar with a rachet strap to pull the lot together. Do not fancy doing that again anytime soon. Some strong words were mentioned shall we say

Thanks very much for the panels! I'll make sure I bring some cutting discs!

Just was thinking the other day what is happening to this beauty, and the update is here! Top job, as always.

How is the ride quality of your car? Is it harsh no end, or soaks potholes?

As would my mate say, does it smooth out the bumps, or maps them in along the way?

At the moment the car is actually quite soft on the suspension and relatively comfortable to drive about in. Being a road car I want to keep it that way, but Ben keeps saying it needs higher spring rates so it may change at some point when we look at the handling more..!

[post]362420[/post] great refurb, looked much better when you had finished.

I couldn't believe they had covered some 20k in that state..

Looked into making the breather system a little better as well whilst doing the TCA's.. the return to the sump was a mess and just leaked so that was the main aim, along with replacing the pipes for something less sharp around the edges!!

Pot off the car

Leaky drain

Old pipes

Drain pipe changed for a smaller pipe on the pot to allow a smaller rubber hose - also welded a bracket to the pot so I can fix it to the strut brace rather than the fuse box as someone had before !!

No more leaks

Decided to fit oil gauges to the car so I could keep an eye on things until the one comes for better management that will do all this for me. With a couple of stepper motor stack gauges lying around it made sense to fit those. Which meant needed to fit a sandwich plate to give me the take of points.

The annoying thing with this was the middle threaded tube was too long and wouldn't clamp the rubber seal on the sandwich plate tight so made an aluminium spacer and some instant gasket and it worked really rather well.

With that done Ford Fair 2016 was the next day and the car drove faultlessly there and back. Was again a really good and enjoyable drive. Fuel tank made a huge difference to the journey than the year before!

Night before, cleaned and ready to go

At the show

And safely home again

Thanks for looking

Hi Dan
Well done mate, I can't believe this post is 1 year out of date, there must be so much more to come now. It will be great when you get this finished as it's a link between an old all conquering classic and a more modern FWD car. I would say a one-off but I was at a Croft Rally cross meeting 3 years ago and saw a lime green Puma (bloody quick) which may not be too different to yours.
