I really liked the Puma when they first came out (especially as Steve McQueen had one!) but only seriously really thought about getting one a few months ago.
Lots of rusty wrecks out there but managed to find a half decent one last week - a green 1.7 in pretty good shape without too much rot.

I've got a few things to sort - but that's owning an old car I guess.

First, and the most annoying thing, is that the passenger side window doesn't work. I looked at a few Youtube videos, borrowed a multi-meter (never used one before) and have worked out that power is getting to the motor.

I suppose that means replacing the Regulator but, as it doesn't seem too difficult, I think I'll give it a go. Does anyone have a spare one they would sell?

I'll take some photos of the car & replacing the mechanism in another post.

You will find more joys as time goes on I expect. Mine was a bit scabby underneath so I wire brushed the worst of the rust off and re-treated/painted to stop it getting any worse (hopefully). Lots of little jobs done, lots more to do. I am being fussy and actually most of them are detail/preventative, it would probably have been ok with rear beam bush change only.

The window regulator might be available on Ebay, I get most of my parts there. It may be possible to fit the motor from a Fiesta (95-02) model onto Puma regulator - I haven't tried this though.

When I looked at my sticking driver's door window the removal of the mech was a bit harder than I'd guessed as it's quite well hidden behind inner door skin.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to our site and Puma ownership!

Good start with the fault finding to ensure you're getting the voltage through, if you post up in the Wanted section specifically then you will be more likely to get peoples attention (as the people with the parts may not always read all the other posts).

Thanks Grogee,
Yes, although looks sound, my underside could do with a good clean & paint!!
Although I've heard it's not a s good as it used to be, I was planning on using Smoothrite on the rear beam etc. and some VHT paint on the brake drums & calipers. (part preventative and part to make look better & allow me to 'tinker'!

No passenger side mechanisms on Ebay at the moment but I wondered if anyone new if any other ones (or motors) were compatible? I saw a KA one that looks very similar.

Thanks also Red,
I'll post a wanted add.

Hi Mark and welcome, I'm a new Puma owner too, good aren't they? !!!

Hi Mike,

Yes, great little cars.

A lot more affordable than say an Escort (which are silly money these days) so a car you can have some fun with and not be scared to use it.

A lot more complicated to work on though - which is a shame when you're not a mechanic and can't weld!

Mark
