Anyone else suddenly had an issue with PhotoBucket? All of a sudden, I apparently have to pay $59 to be allowed to link images to my posts?

WTF?!!

Hi James
I've just had a look on there and it looks like they've altered their terms and conditions so you might have been caught out by that (it's in blue at the top of the page)

Yep. Had PB for 12 years or so, and now means all my images over the years on my threads are dead. No way I'm paying up to $399 to link images. What other image hosting does everyone else use?

oh...and to add, that Laguna behind my old Puma in the picture finally got taken away just over a week ago. Only sat on his garden for 6 years that I can remember!!

Can't understand it as the guy who came for it threw a booster on it and it started first time and drove. Can't work out some of my neighbours, they're doo-lally

Thanks guys, need to find another provider and then try and fix some of my threads as without pics they are a bit rubbish. And the how to guides will be rubbish too. Grrrrr. If it was a reasonable price I'd pay, but greedy I'm not doing.

I hope with that price they stop the ludicrous number of adverts they usually force upon you.

They could have handled the commercials much better over the years (pot kettle?) and trying to levy a large payment like that isn't the way to do it.

I used to love photobucket and would have also paid a reasonable amount as the usability has always been pretty good. I've started using flickr as I got fed up with all the adverts but it isn't without fault.

Yeah, I was just reading their P500 stuff. That's outrageous, if that's not ransomware, I don't know what is. I can't even enlarge the images there anyway, due to my adblocking stuff, as it is.

For forum images, like on here, how about using the forum's gallery utility? Your project ones relate to the site anyway and should get backed up along with the regular forum backups (check with Red on that one) and so will never vanish forever....er...like what happened to me a few years back with ImageShack.

All site owners do prefer people to use external image hosting, as it cuts down on the backup size and bandwidth, etc. Then again, site owners do also like their forums to have meaningful stuff on them and not blank images that make a nonsense of threads, so this stuff is a balancing act.

Difference here is that the very worst you get (bet it's never happened yet) is a PM from Red, suggesting you ease up a bit on the sheer number of images you are uploading here. That's a lot different to this faceless blackmail stuff you're getting now.

Gradually but more so over the last few months, photobucket for me has become virtually unusable.
It is slow to navigate, takes forever to upload anything and the Ads are a joke, so I installed an Ad blocker for Chrome which has resulted in grinding photobucket to a halt whenever I try and do anything.

Now registered with Flickr which seems OK so far, but I've only used it a few times.

I would love to be able to upload everything to the forum gallery but the image file size restrictions don't like my picture sizes.

Well, that's true for just about everyone these days. A basic camera is around 8Mpx and that's a size of 3456 x 2304px, so my 14Mpx stuff is a fair bit larger than that.

Meantime, the forum restriction of 1280 x 1024px relates to 1.31 Megapixels! :-)

Irfanview is free and can do batch resizing of whole folders, if required.

I've just had a look on the Westfield forum and sure enough there are comments on there as well. One of the comments was that the writer had downloaded his library back to his own computer in a zipped form and seeing as I'm a complete numpty with computers anyone know how to do this (in plain English) ?

Hi Barry

I have no idea how that person downloaded their entire library..... but.....

My pictures are segregated into 'Albums'. When you select the 'Album' on the left had side navigation area, there is an 'ACTIONS' heading on the right side, with a clicky saying 'Download Album'.
I assume clicking this will allow you to download the entire album. I've clicked on it, but as it's horrendously slow for me so I have no idea what it will/is going to do!

EDIT: It downloads the entire 'Album' as a .ZIP file...

After it spends ages processing whatever it does, it shows a download button which, once clicked, starts the download of your album.

Yep, good move. When 'monetisation' gets this greedy there's even a possibility that might even stop people grabbing their own stuff, unless they pay.

This 'Third Image Hosting' stuff is a total nonsense, as no one needs first party image hosting as, by definition they already have the images on their own PCs, i.e. the sole reason for anyone uploading an image is for them to be seen by other people and that is what Photobucket are calling 'third party hosting'.

More about it here (a well-informed tech geek site) - https://www.ghacks.net/2017/06/30/photo ... ed-images/

Btw steer clear of TinyPic, as they are a subsidiary of PB.

It's ok Matt, it's just that I noticed my sig' broke a while back. As I've never said anything until this thread hopefully shows you I'm not fussed. Have no idea what is in the old gallery of mine but pretty sure I'll have it lying about on one of my old PC's too
