Hi Puma fans!

Bought myself a 2001 1.7 Puma for 2K€ from Germany and drove it home 2000km. Was a bit risky idea to do it alone in a 21 year old Puma with only light visual inspection and test drive before the deal. But everything went well and I was home in 2 days, like planned. In Estonia it´s just almost impossible to find one to buy. Actually we have 88 mk1 Pumas registered here but around 40 of them seem to be in road-leagal condition.
Odometer shows 116 000km, no guarantees on that, but at least the Recaro leather interior looks pretty ok and seems to match with this kilometer number. From top, the blue car looks really nice but of course, the lower you go the more rust you find.

It needed some basic service - oil change, new brake pads, full new exhaust and a lot of smaller stuff for the undercarriage.
Now I found that the power steering tube is rusty and leaking. So this will be the first test for me to find some more specific spare parts or fixing solutions for Puma.

Hi Lauri,

Welcome to the forum. I removed that link you added as I couldn't get it to show up. Was it a picture?

It sounds like you've bought a nice model, potentially a Futura I think they were called over there.

Good luck and enjoy the car!

Yes, I tried to add some photos but seems I failed. I hope this link works and who is interested, can have a look here:

I´m a bit suspicious about the paint color - i really love it and think it fits perfectly but I have seen it only on the pictures of Racing Puma and of some cars with Netherlands registration plates. It´s clear that my car has been overpainted at some point but was it the original color or did it have some other shade of blue originally, I don´t know yet. Next time I go to garage, I´ll check the paint code.

Cool, looks like the Sport Edition, this info used to be on a Netherlands website which is currently not online, I'd previously translated it. Seems they counted more were created than went to the Netherlands.

Web Archive Version
(Produced 500, 2001-2002 in color Racing / Imperial Blue. Only 69 units delivered in the Netherlands)

The Sports Edition was originally intended to be Racing Puma. They were as ordinary Puma made in the separate color Imperial Blue and then converted to become Racing Puma. 1000 pieces would be made. 500 for the British market and 500 for the German market. After the 500 had been delivered to the UK market Ford came to the conclusion that the 500 for the German market had to be canceled because they price / performance ratio could not compete against other brands like Subaru Impreza. So the remaining 500 were a "normal" Puma. They were provided with a black leather interior and sport rims millennium.

Those were sold in Germany as well, but you can check the color code on the Ford Etis website with your chasis number

Etis confirmed the code: Puma 1997-2001, Zetec 1.7 EFI, Imperial Blue (Metallic)

Very nice car! Reharding the leaking servo pipe, I had it as well, you can check my thread in signature and will see what happened and how I repaired it. Did not use original parts but had made new pipeing in sections.

Enjoy your puma and welcome!
