In my old Escort, whilst not having smoke/steam coming up through vents (from what I can remember) I did have the same syptoms (smell of coolant & loss of coolant) that turned out to be the head gasket

Thanks to Cherie & Dal for organising - good to have a chat with a few or you - only complaint was how little there was for children hence why left early, a very winey 3 year old!!

Bought my first Puma a couple of weeks ago - so far so good!! X reg (late Dec 2000) 1.7 50724 miles black with Luxury Pack - paid far too much money for it (don't ask) but hey you pay your money and take your choice! Good service history along with new discs & pads, 2 new tyres, new back box...

Many thanks for this guide - having recently purchased my first Puma the remote did not work even having put in new batteries - had it tested and showed it was faulty. Purchased a second hand one off ebay followed the above instructions and job done, saved a small fortune so many thanks again
