Front Suspension Gap - What have I done???

Checking my car over as I almost ready for an MoT, hopefully.
There is a gap at the top of the suspension. I took pictures when I dismantled and rebuilt but there is a gap on both sides. Any ideas?

If it has been assembled correctly, the following should be the approximate gap with all new components, with wheels on the ground.

If it is larger, its either assembled wrong, or possibly a top mount not giving enough height. Used top mounts tend to compress over time and increase this gap.

Thank you, much appreciated. The suspension was at the start of the restoration which was a long time ago now. I found a picture where it was touching but at around the same time I have pictures where the front was on axle stands so I guess that would explain it?
