From 1st November 2012, when new car tyres are sold, they will have to carry the following label, covering:
Impact on vehicle fuel efficiency associated to the tyre’s rolling resistance.
External noise level (expressed in decibels).
Wet grip.

Some rumours floating around are:
Many current “cheap” tyres will not meet the requirements.
Tyres will become more expensive.
 
So the emphasis is on wet grip and nothing for dry grip?

Good idea though. I can see some manufacturers questioning the results though as they'll see it as hindering their sales ability.
 
The labelling system comes into force on 1st of June in continental part of EU... The idea is to give information to the customer who may not necessary have the knowledge about it, but is accustomed to this kinds of 'washing mashine' labels.....
