paint touch up blending in

i have done some touch up work om my puma and have a bit over the top ie as in rather than just fill in the chip hole i have filled it so that it is not level but above the level of the chip as most were on the side of the car and the paint kept running exposing the chip again the idea was to use some t cut and slowly work the paint back to a level level has any one got any tips or a better product for doing this perhaps rubbing compound or is this to abrasive for my silver paintwork..

I've used very fine gsm wet and dry sand paper in the past with good results, masked off the surrounding area and gently rubbed it down until I was happy.
