Hi all, I want to show you my little 1998 Puma, that I've developed to race in the 2015 Italian Time Attack Championship.
I bought it in november 2012 as a car to use every day, but the sensations was so good that I decided to develop some parts to enjoy more my drive. So first I bought the Hispec 4pot 278mm front brake kit, the Vogtland complete coilover kit, and the Milltek 4-2-1 exhaust manifold. The first remap showed 138.8 hp on the dyno (was 125 hp on the dyno the first dyno run two months earlier).
The car was so good on the road and also on the tracks that me and my mechanic decided to increase the power of the car by working inside the engine.
In winter 2013/2014 these were the works:
- Processing head complete with polishing ducts;
- Tuned valve seats;
- Special valves measure;
- Valve springs with increased load;
- Camshaft with dedicated profile (two profiles for the exhaust cam);
- Lapping engine block;
- New reinforced steel connecting rods;
- Bushings tailor;
- CPS forged pistons;
- Lightening and balancing the flywheel and crankshaft balancing;
- Clutch reinforced;
- Elimination phase shifter;
- Exhaust manifolds Milltek 4-2-1 adapted, central and terminal silenced handcraft exhaust;
- Mectronik competition ECU with complete wiring;
- Oil Cooler 16 front lines
- Complete Powerflex bushing;
- 3 OMP strut bar (2 on the front, 1 on the rear).
In this second configuration the engine developed 169 hp @ 7800 rpm and 196 Nm.
The impressions on the engine were great, but the car was a little bit instable becouse of the suspension (not very strict and no longer able to satisfy the grip I need) and also for the brakes, underdimensioned for near 170hp.
In that configuration I run the last race of the 2014th Time Attack season, with not bad results, but not as good as I wanted.
In winter 2014/2015 the car was further developed with these works:
Engine:
- Elimination power steering and air conditioning with new services belt;
- New services crankshaft pulley billet;
- Motorcycle derived individual throttle bodies with adapter plate designed in Flushing;
Gearbox:
- Shorter final ratio
- Complete revision with change synchronizers.
Chassis:
- Trim complete with monotube separate cans, home designed and made, adjustable in compression and rebound separately;
- Dedicated track springs;
- Rear axle changed;
- Camber and revised convergence;
- Front brakes semi-artisan (derivation facility Hispec) caliper with 4 pistons and modified in the oil passages in the pistons, disc 303mm;
- Rear disc brakes;
- Complete set metal braided brake hoses;
- Adding stabilizer bar replaceable and adjustable in three configurations;
- Front arms modified to increase camber;
- Reinforcing bar front underbody;
And also:
- Extinguisher with fixing FIA;
- Gel battery with fixing FIA;
- Battery switch;
- Sparco reclining seats;
- Various lightening, final weight 985 kg (you can save an additional 20 kg with seat monocoque);
Additional instrumentation:
- Depo Racing 4-in-1 oil pressure, oil temperature, water temperature, voltmeter;
- Tachometer Precision AITech Rev Pro with LED programmable shift;
- Hooks hood (removing the original);
Tecnomagnesio 7x15 replica wheels with Dunlop tires DIREZZA 03G
In this configuration the car had developed 200.1 hp on the dyno @ 8200 rpm with 186 Nm of torque. Afetr 4 of the 7 races in 2015 we changed the exhaust camshaft with an older one, to have a better erogation at mid rpm. The last configuration (the actual one) is with 191hp @ 8200 rpm and 185 Nm.
I raced the car in some good circuit here in Italy, like Mugello Circuit, Adria International Raceway, San Martino del Lago circuit, Imola Circuit, Varano de Melegari.
I was not fast enough to win the top step of the podium in anyone of these races, just becouse the first was everytime a really fast guy with an incredibly fast Honda Integra TR, but in the end I made second in my category in the championship in front a lot of Honda Civic, Renault Clio RS, Opel Corsa OPC, Mini Cooper S and many other.
Here it is my Youtube channel where you can see some of my laps in some circuits, and hearing the lovely sound of the ITB!
