Hi guys. I apologise in advance for the poor explanation here.

I'm Avignon trouble refitting the sensor that is under the silver engine cover on the left hand side of the engine. The sensor slots into the hole in the rocker over but then the connector doesn't seem to stretch round? It's been a few dye since I removed it so my mind as gone blank. I also have. Little metal bar which I think is used to keep in place?

Do you mean passenger side of the engine by left side? it is possible to put the cam position sensor in wrong this is a piccie of how it should look

I have it like the first one, just not bolted down.nwould this cause rough running? Also not sure if you would know but if the water pump is knackered would it be leaking or can it be knackerd without a water leak? It's over heating. Changed all the pipes etc but I'm pretty sure the pump needs changing. The fan cuts in at half way most of the time.

Referring to your previous post about the sensor and running rough, it would cause it to run rough due to not being bolted down, though I would imagine it would also make it hard to start. Have you checked/changed ht leads, coil pack and/or plugs to cancel them off the list of possible reasons?

Sorry dont really know about it causing rough running but my guess would be if it isnt bolted down properly or was back to front it very well could.

Maybe you have a thermostat problem, or a HCV problem which should not be able to cause overheating probs but many people report it has for them. Also Pumas are a bugger for getting airlocks which may be the prob you have

I did mine once and it went fine first time, but there have been folk who have had airlocks for weeks, and you are a mechanic after all

I have just bolted it back down but it doesn't seem very secure. You can easily lift the front of the sensor up and you can twist it even within bolted down. Is this right or should there be a spacer or something under the bolt?

I've changed the HCV for a genuine ford one. I did have a split in a water pipe from the HCV to the block but I have replaced this but I think whilst it ran with the split hose it has led to the water pump failing.

This time last week I couldn't fault it at all. Everhing ran like a dream and is never misse a beat until this split water hose has caused all sorts of problems. I will put a new water pump on tomorrow evening and then bleed it properly and see why happens. It ran so lumpy earlier and tried to stall several times (battery light etc coming on). From cold it starts okay but when warm it seems to take a minute to start, and I have the give it some revs.

Correct bar and correct bolt.
I'm starting to wonder if the thermostat has gone as the rad seems to be stone cold after a drive?
