And yesterday, my UBEC arrived.
I got a dashcam with a damn 5V IN and the regulator is inside the plug... worst idea ever.
I wanted a blackboxed unit so on I went... cut the power wire, only to find out the regulator is in the plug.
Order list:
- UBEC 5V/3A switching regulator.
Well the switching regulator consumes 0.38A and for a 14.8V power, that is roughly 5.6W so 5/5.6 = 89.3% efficiency. 0.6W is dissipated, so almost no heat.
I wanted a simple linear regulator, but for 14.8V it need 1A, so 14.8*1 = 14.8W. For 5V it means 5*1=5W so 5/14.8 = 33.8% eficiency. 14.8-5 = 9.8W... now that is a lot of heat...
So:
Left harness, the 4 speakers, and the rear speaker cables are doubles as those goes to the subwoofer.
Right harness, earth, 12V constant, 12V ignition and REM.
REM goes to my woofer as signal for switching.
I wired in parallel the regulator with the ignition 12V, and the earth. Now when i put on the ignition the camera goes on.
Stop the ignition, camera goes off.
No, it doesn't have parking mode so this was best way to go. Also no wires on the dash etc, as it goes all hidden
Ohhh the FORD to ISO adapter. I don't know where it is from, but you HAVE TO SWITCH red and yellow cables. Otherwise your player will loose memory
