excellent work, the std brakes are shocking! driven cars with half the power with brakes alot better than the puma.

You all keep forgetting the car was designed in 1995. or so? It was norm, back then. BMW M3 had 15 inch wheels, I think 16" was serial even on porsche 911.
Have you driven a golf MK3? They should have put an anchor in it next to those brakes…
Or a honda CRX? Goes like hell, but can't stop at all!

Yes, the puma brakes are shit by todays standards, in those days that was how everyone did it…

Remember once in Detroit I saw a mustang shelby (Eleonor from Gone in 60 secs), His front discs were just about the size of a CD/DVD, and rear drums are just about as big as those on early pumas!!
That brakes must have been shocking!

So are the Bremen callipers just that bit bigger than the St170 ones that it won't fit under the 16" wheel any longer?

I'm also surprised 17" wheels fit on the front.. The 16" escos wheels rub on the back side of the arch inside just above the lower arm casing if they have 225/45 tyres fitted. I only manged to get them in with 215/40 tyres on. It's close when the wheel is turned but misses during any driving.

I wanted to fit R888s, but as they don't come in a lower profile I don't think they'll fit without modifying the arch :(

The Brembo calipers are the same size as the Alcons which was the original plan but will not fit under the 16" wheels, and I'm going with the Brembo calipers along with the ST170 discs as it proves to be better financially in the long run. The conversion is from standard puma brake setup, I've never had ST170 front calipers on my car, only on the rear.

With regards to the 17" 7j speedlines, I've had them on the car for about... 6 years now so I can assure you they do fit lol. A slight rubbing on the inside of the arch on full lock and run 205/40/17 tyres.

nah its not how everyone did it in those days,i had a e30 325i mtech sport 1990 and the brakes were well up to the job,ive had a nissan 300zx twin turbo 1989 again brake were fine, ive had a porsche 911 1987 fine again my wheels were 17 inch,my misses had a old almera 1.5 went like a sack of s**t and the brakes were s**t hot,ive even driven 1.0 cars like a old ax and the brakes are better than the pumas! yes iv'e driven a few mk3 golfs my dad had a soft top not long ago and i drove it a few times didn't think they were great but didn't think oh sh*t am i going to stop in time like in puma,if your talking about the old mustang shelby the same as Eleonor there from 1965-1970! servos must play a big part to as the brakes on some of these cars ive listed aren't big either.

I've got the ST170 setup all round, only reason I ask.

Must be that 16s with 225/45 tyres end up being slightly bigger in diameter than 17s with 205/40 tyres. I know that a 15" escort gti wheel with 195/50 R888s is roughly the same size as the Mondeo si 16" version with 215/40 tyres.

It is an odd place they catch with the larger tyres, but not much can be done about it without cutting away some of the inner arch.

Servo and master cylinder play a big part in how good the brakes feel I think. Changing to braided lines and upgraded discs and callipers helps with stopping power but the servo/cylinder dictates how the pedal feels more.

excellent job are the grahics available off the shelf

how wide are the wheels

The reason the calipers work with ST170 discs is because they aren't Focus RS calipers. That set up is better then RS calipers, and was made for an ST170. There are no bridge hoses like the RS calipers, and they have the removable adaptor bracket. I think you might feel as though you have a little less braking assistance from the servo, but the stopping power should be in a different leauge to that of standard brakes.

Will you be ready for show season??

FINALLY the car is ready for the road :)

Brakes are sorted, rear axle spacers swapped to 20mm because the 30mm were just stupidly wide! Speedlines back on as well, and fitted new sparco mudflaps :D
Just need to get the FRP inlet manifold swapped and need two new tyres eventually for the rear because the size of the ones i have is wrong :-?
ALSO really do need to get a new gearbox because the input shaft in my old one is really starting to rattle around..

But other than that she's taxed and ready to get back on the road. And the brakes feel EPIC :D

You've really taken your car to the next level Sparx, this car is going to be a huge contender in track with the mods you've done, and also looks epic.

Thank you :D
Can't wait for the next track day :D shame i'm not going to Snetterton this week :-(
