Another alternative would be to buy a used engine from a scapper, service it, change cam belt and swap. Few on Ebay Easier solution?

I can only go by what the local garage said, and he restores old escorts and fiestas for a living, so I take his word. He says shredded teeth. That's a failed Cam belt, hence the title. The root cause is not certain.
