    Irritating misfire and backfiring

Ok, interesting outcome. It got worse and worse until I eventually got a code saying cylinder 2misfire. I pulled the plugs and cylinder 2's was a bit oily but not awful (not sure how sensitive modern plugs are to oil fouling). I swapped it with the cylinder 1 plug expecting the misfiring...

    Irritating misfire and backfiring

I've had a quick look at the tps, it says 15% open at idle, seems to increase fairly smoothly on acceleration though.

    Irritating misfire and backfiring

Ok, I've plugged in the obd, the maf is working fine, but the second O2 sensor is showing 0v, I was under the impression that it was only the first that controls fueling, but will replace and see if that helps

    Irritating misfire and backfiring

Thanks, will certainly double check the spark plugs, clean the iacv and check for leaks. I've got a scanner on order so will see what that says.

    Irritating misfire and backfiring

I changed the fuel and air filters as soon as I noticed the first sight misfire, it's since got a lot worse. It's able to cruise at relatively high speeds most of the time and accelerate ok, once the revs are higher than about 2k. It also backfires continuously when it's misfiring so I'm...

    Irritating misfire and backfiring

Afternoon. I'm scratching my head trying to find the source of this misfire. Coil pack has been replaced, HT leads show less than 6k ohms and spark plugs look fine. I replaced the pre-cat lambda sensor today hoping that would sort it as the car runs fine with the temperature sensor unplugged. Am...

    Bodged floorplan repair

This is a bit rough, but an improvement on what was there before

    Bodged floorplan repair

Update. I've attacked the floorpan and welded up some of the most of the difficult shapes. The front driver's side wing is rotten at the base though which I didn't think was the case. Not sure if it's weldable. I think it's about a 50-50 chance. So far I've spent £30 on some mig gas which...

    Bodged floorplan repair

Update: the outer sills are in surprisingly good condition; weldable. The inner sills are bad, there's three holes in the floorpan on the driver's side and one on the passenger's (including the giant one near the foot well). The rot is pretty much continuous along the seem, broken only where...

    Bodged floorplan repair

OK, good news: The back end is fine, the front wings are fine and the wheel arches and outer sills are ok-ish. The passenger side isn't anywhere near as bad, but still needs welding. Bad news: it looks like someone has done a terrible repair in the past, cutting out the rusted floorpan back to...

    Bodged floorplan repair

I welded that exact spot up last year and the inner rear wheel arch the year before. It's just the floorpan which is bad, though I'll obviously have a proper look round. Nevertheless, that's a lot of welding. I'll post some photos tomorrow.

    Bodged floorplan repair

So, I discovered several holes in my floorpan today and set about investigating. After some wire brushing, it seems that the interior sills are also rotten in the front foot wells. The driver's side is much worse. After some more wire brushing, I've discovered a previous "repair" where that the...

    Welding?

Having welded up mine a week ago, I can concur with this. Sill rot on these things is likely to be the tip of the iceberg, a small hole generally inplies that the whole area around it will be totally rotten and a wider area still, will be "manky" and not weldable. If it's bad on one side, it's...

How much of a pita are the rear trailing arm mounts ti remove?

Thought I ought to update everyone here. Thanks for the advice. Got the bolts off and supported the car without issues: 15x15mm pieces of wood about 30cm long on top of normal axle stands just inside the sill flange half way down. The real pita was finding good metal to weld to. Still, it's...

How much of a pita are the rear trailing arm mounts ti remove?

tuonkid: yes, I welded up the inner wheel arch about 11 months ago. I'll be able to justify putting a pit in my garage since then. XAF: I might take you up on that offer, thanks.
