Need to bleed brake system after clutch change?

Hi all! I changed my clutch recently, which obviously meant disconnecting the hydraulic line from the gearbox. Now, does this mean I have to bleed the brake system? Or is there any other special procedure needed? I'm a bit of a novice, so might be a silly question... but just asking :wink...

    1.7 lambda interchangeable with 1.6?

Hi guys, Quick question... I have a 1.7 of which the lambda sensor is dead. I have a 1.6 engine lying around, and I took the lambda sensor of that engine. It turns out the plugs are different, but the wires are exactly the same (two white ones, one grey one, and a black one). Furthermore, the...

    Fitting clutch - need help

Hi folks! Quick question: I have to refit the clutch assembly to the engine after getting engine and gearbox out of the car (1.7). How can I check which side of the clutch has to face the flywheel? There are no markings on the clutch itself, and both sides seem to be the same. Advice will be...

    Project Plus 100CC (1.6 to 1.7 swap)

Day 5 - Engine cleaning Hi folks! Today I have a couple of pics for you to show my progress. The 1.7 in now on an engine stand, and we removed all major parts to get good access to clean the engine. This was neccessary, the engine was really dirty. And here she is! As you can see, we cleaned a...

    Project Plus 100CC (1.6 to 1.7 swap)

Guys, as unexperienced as I am, I am a bit nervous about putting the engine on a engine stand. I am particularely nervous about the bolts. The lower two are 10.9 grade bolts which are strong enough. However, the upper two are original gearbox bolts, and I'm not sure if they are suited for this...

    Project Plus 100CC (1.6 to 1.7 swap)

Day 4 - Engine out! This week we made great progress! The weather became much better to work in, so we queued the music and got to work. First thing on the agenda was removing the strut towers and wheel assemblies. After that, the axles came out, gear linkage detached, exhaust out, gearbox...

    Project Plus 100CC (1.6 to 1.7 swap)

Ah, it's the ABS of course :-P Never thought of that. Saves me some work with the petrol tank No updates untill further notice, we are experiencing extreme heat here in Holland, so the Puma is currently on hold. But if you guys could give some tips on getting the suspension and brake bolts...

    Project Plus 100CC (1.6 to 1.7 swap)

Day 3 - Cables, looms, and connectors This day consisted mainly of pulling all remaining connectors and cables. There are quite a bit, but like Alex said, it's quite a straightforward process. All connectors got out easily, nothing broke luckily. Also dug a little bit deeper into the loom...

    Project Plus 100CC (1.6 to 1.7 swap)

Thought of that already haha. Masking tape and markers are being used actively, otherwise I will be lost completely when getting the engine in. I think that's someone else  I'm on a Facebook group but I haven't posted anything. Thanks btw, will do when I need help! Yes, it's actually...

    Project Plus 100CC (1.6 to 1.7 swap)

Day 2 - Seats and ECU out Today I decided to get the front seats out to get better access to the ECU and correspoding cables. The seats in this Puma are actually the leather Recaro's which I'm pleased with. I don't have a picture of the specific seats, but I borrowed this picture below from the...

    Project Plus 100CC (1.6 to 1.7 swap)

Day 1 - The beginning Before it all begins... If you look closely, you will see that not all of the oil is actually in the engine :? 99% sure this is a failing rocker cover gasket, which I will fix when the engine is out. And this the end of day 1. Battery, air filter housing are out...

    Project Plus 100CC (1.6 to 1.7 swap)

Hi all! I will use this topic as sort of a diary for my very own Puma project. The goal is to exchange the 1.6 engine in my Puma for a 1.7 and create a good handling car I can use both on the road as well as on the track. I know, swapping a 1.6 for a 1.7 does not sound very sexy or challenging...

    1.6 to 1.7 engine swap

Thnx for the info. I dug a little deeper and I can see the loom from the ECU going through the metal next to the firewall. But how do I remove the rubber grommet and pull the cables through the hole? I'm a bit of a newbie, so I'm scared to damage the cables...

    1.6 to 1.7 engine swap

So guys, a quick question about the engine loom... What exactly do I need to pull out and swap over to the other car? There is a big bundle of cables coming out of the ECU going behind the dashboard, I hope I won't need to get this out :?

    1.6 to 1.7 engine swap

Quick update: I went for the donor car idea. Bought a Puma 1.7 with major rust but a good engine (100k miles). I will create a seperate topic to keep you guys updated and post questions. Thanks again for all the help!

    1.6 to 1.7 engine swap

Ok, that clears things up a bit I was just considering that... a quick calculation shows that I will need at least 700-800 euros for parts. And it turns out there's a scrap Puma for sale here in The Netherlands for 600...

    1.6 to 1.7 engine swap

Many thanks for your replies, I have a good overview right now of what needs to be done. Sourcing the engine and the parts won't be a problem. However, the ECU and engine loom give me some worries. There are quite a bit of ECUs for sale on ebay, but which one to get? How do I know it's been on...

    1.6 to 1.7 engine swap

Thanks Alex! This helps a lot! I've got some more questions... It turns out there are two variants of the 1.7, MHA and MHB. I have a 2001 Puma. Which one will I need, or are they interchangeable? What about the exhaust manifold, can I simply transfer the 1.6 one to the 1.7? I see no difference...
