Oh, and I'd also suggest you either get the Weitec GT kit with the solid shocks all round or go the whole hog and get coilovers all round. I've got a GTN kit and it's just too much of a halfway house to make it worthwhile.

Sorry Elvin, all those mods sound like a recipie for disaster. The puma is perfectly controllable as it is, I spend most my time going sideways on roundabouts and corners, and haven't scared myself....... yet!

The ABS is there for a reason, it's not just something Ford added because they thought it sounded good. It's there to stop your wheels locking up if you have to brake suddenly, leaving you in control of the car rather than fighting it.

Unless you know something we don't Elvin, and have a degree in car design and engineering?

Elvin........

.... unless you want Pumaspeed to have lots more spare parts of one of your pumas

.... leave the abs alone.... please... ;)

em i didnt catch you on the weitec kit. could you explain a little more??

The GTN kit uses coilovers up front and semi-adjustable shocks at the back. I've got this. Don't bother with it. Either get fixed shocks all round like Dal or get coilovers all round like BOK

I've got the fixed ones too and they're fab

:thumbs:

hmmm I think I will go with coilovers all round. btw going to get the brakes done properly next year (maybe around feb or march)so am sticking with the same setup this year

A halfway decent driver can outbrake the Puma's ABS system by cadence braking under most circumstances.

I genuinely did not know that ABS was an MOT item.

Test Description

Inside the car

Anti-lock braking system (if fitted) warning lamp is checked for:

* function
* sequence of operation

Footbrake

* sufficient reserve travel on the footbrake
* pedal rubber not worn to excess
* correct operation of the servo assistance system

Parking brake

This could be hand or foot operated. Checked for reserve travel so that it doesn't reach the stops on application. The mountings will be checked for security and/or corrosion.

Under bonnet checks

* master cylinder and servo unit are checked for leaks with the engine on and the brakes applied
* servo unit will be checked to ensure it is operating correctly
* visible metal or flexible brake pipes will be checked for corrosion, condition, fouling or leaks

Under vehicle checks

* flexible brake pipes and any other metal brake pipes visible beneath the car are checked
* discs and drums (external only) checked for condition and contamination
* brake back plates and caliper securing devices are checked for condition and security
* condition of the brake pads will be checked if visible
* The assistant operates the handbrake and the condition of the linkages and/or cables is checked.
* on some vehicles there will be a brake compensating valve beneath the car which will need to be inspected for fluid leaks

Brake performance check

The performance of the front and rear brakes and handbrake are checked for efficiency and balance using specialised equipment.

If your ABS light stays on then it's a fail yes. But then any warning light that fails to go out can be a fail as well apparently, such as washer bottle empty.

I don't see the MOT as a bugger like most people seem to. I'd rather know my car is working correctly under me than trying to dodge some MOT defect.
