After the service... done by a ford garage... there was no oil on the top of the engine... so i would say it wasnt spilt oil... i'm struggling now to see what is causing the problem

My revs above 6k... but sometimes it sounds really rough... struggles to rev... then other times smooth as anything!!!! What is going on then!!!

I have checked my vct today... after some sound advice from dal... regarding my lack of power and noisey revs which is mentioned on another topic... anyway after checking the vct sensor i have taken some pics which i hope not is anything serious as there is oil coming from the vct and leaking...

Question for dal again... i've checked the vct plug today... the pins look really clean... however the wire that run's from the top of the vct sensor... the outer wire casing of it has melted on the top of the engine due to massive heat... its split but i'm not sure if its damaged the wireing...

Wouldnt it be under warrenty with kwik-fit

Ok thank god for that... you had me going there... does the plug sensor just pull off... make sure the visable pins are clean and the wires are ok!!! Anything else i could look for... though it probably will be vct related, is it a common problem

I only thought you meant on top of the head where the oil cap is... how do i take apart all that to get to where the pictures are!!! A little confused now DAL!!!

Hi, I am having a problem with my 1.7 t reg puma with 71000 on the clock... Recently when it comes to accelerating over 3k revs... the engine sounds really rough and loud over 3k and when it hits the vct, not much power either when this occurs!!! Then other times is runs as smooth as anything...

Well at least it seems there is no underlying problems with the puma... huge relief. I thought it could be the bottom end going... or the clutch... or the gear box, but at least it seems a poor tank of fuel can cause such a problem

Right... i've got some feedback on your suggestions... cherrie and dal... Remember i used a full tank of standard tesco petrol last week, and my puma developed a low down rattle and sweet fa power!!! I took your advice unboard, run the tank as low as i dare take it... i boy it was low...

It did it again tonight on the way home, only at low speeds and in to high a gear for the revs eg, 30mph in 4th gear going up a steep hill with my foot hard down!!!
